Whisper of the Witch
Mori and Kodai return to the Yamato after a scouting mission. The ship seems to be deserted. They start hallucinating. They try to stay together but they are separated. The source of the hallucinations is Mirenel, an agent of the Gamillas. She uses her powers to get Mori to reveal how the Yamato's Wave Motion Engine functions.
Kodai imagines he is back on Earth. He remembers the day that his parents were killed. It was just by chance that he wasn't nearby when a planet bomb destroyed them. Mori imagines that she is in a hospital bed and she sees someone who looks a lot like her. Kodai awakes from the delusions propagated by Mirenel just in time to save Mori.
Misaki is the only other character that seems to be on the Yamato while all this is going on. Was it really Misaki or was it the spirit of the Yamato taking her form?
This episode was very hard to follow from moment to moment. Mori and Kodai are led to see things that aren't really there. The source of the illusion is Mirenel, who works for the Gamillas. She was projecting her mind onto the Yamato. In the end she gets killed but according to Celestera they were able to copy Mirenel's memories before her brain was fried.
There are elements of this episode that reminded me of 1.09 (Clockwork Prisoner). Episodes like these, if nothing else, keep this show from being a straight on space adventure. I'm intrigued by this episode but I'm not sure how much I liked it.
