Freaks and Geeks 1.14

Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers

Kim and Lindsay run over Goliath, Millie's dog, by mistake. They don't realize what happened until the next day when they see Millie and ask her why she looks so sad. They want to tell her but they don't. Kim starts treating Millie decently. She even invites her to go to the Who concert with them.

Bill's mother is dating Mr. Fredericks, the gym teacher. Bill does not approve. He acts up in gym class. Mr. Fredericks doesn't do anything to him.

Lindsay wants to go the Who concert. Her father says no, at first but then agrees to listen to their latest album and decide based on that. He doesn't like what he hears and tells Lindsay no. He changes his mind after he finds out that Millie is going too and Lindsay wants to keep an eye on her.

Nick writes a song for Lindsay. He plays it for Ken, who is not impressed. Ken does his best impression of Pete Townshend and prevents Nick from playing the song for Lindsay.

Mr. Fredericks takes Bill, Sam, and Neal to Go Cart City on the weekend. They are all having fun, even Bill, until Mr. Fredericks runs him off the course. Bill loses his cool and yells at Mr. Fredericks.

Kim gets concerned about Millie after she tells off her mother, who doesn't want her to go to the concert. It happens in front of a bunch of other kids. Millie getting ready to drink her first beer when Kim spills her guts and tells her the truth: she killed Goliath, Millie's dog. Millie gets angry and stomps off without drinking the beer.

Bill comes to some sort of understanding with Mr. Fredericks while watching TV with him.

Thoughts

There are a few good laughs in this one. I especially liked the scene where Lindsay's parents are listening to the Who album. The innuendo was just a little too much for her father. His reaction to it was priceless. Ken's reaction to Nick's song was also pretty funny.

There are also some heartfelt moments, in both storylines, that really work.

This is a really good episode. I didn't remember much about it going in. It was vaguely familiar going in but I didn't remember any details.
