Quite a Ride
The episode opens with a flashback to when Saul was getting ready to leave town at the end of Breaking Bad.
Kim starts to take some defense work on the side. She blows off Mesa Verde, which makes Paige angry. Kim apologizes. Paige gives her another chance. She expects that Kim will treat Mesa Verde as her most important client and come running at a moments notice.
Jimmy buys up a bunch of the cell phones from CC Mobile, the store where he works. He goes out and sells them on the street for cash. Everything goes well until the end of the night when he gets beaten up and robbed. of the cash he made selling the phones.
Mike helps Gus solicit bids to convert the abandoned and currently non-functional industrial laundry building. Gus wants a basement added but he doesn't want anyone to knw about it. He wants the work done covertly. The engineers are brought there one at a time. Mike meets them near Denver, CO. He doesn't tell them where they are going or let them see where they are going.
The episode ends with Jimmy going to the courthouse. He is there to check-in with a probationary officer. Jimmy runs into Howard in the bathroom, before the check-in. Howard doesn't look so hot and admits that he has insomnia. Jimmy goes to the check-in meeting after he leaves the bathroom.
Thoughts
Nacho is not in this episode. Gus only shows up briefly towards the end of the episode. Jimmy plays a bigger part in this episode than he has in previous ones. He seems to have learned his lesson.
I wondered when Jimmy was on the street selling phones if he was going to wind up selling one to Jesse Pinkman but I didn't see anyone who looked like Jesse during that scene.
I think the opening scene is the first time they have shown something from the Jimmy/time as Saul on Breaking Bad. I'm not sure if that was an actual scene from Breaking Bad.
This was a very good episode. I can see that they are clearly starting to set things up for the beginning of Breaking Bad. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I have mixed feelings. I almost wish that things would veer off in another direction. I still don't know what is going to happen to Nacho and Kim between now and the end of Better Call Saul.
