UFO Robo Grendizer 3.19

Farewell, Dearest Friend Morros

or Tragedy of Elite Bodyguard Mors
or Le meilleur ami (The best friend)

The Vegans are pondering what to do next, how to try and kill Duke Fleed when a missing saucer beast shows up at Skull Moon Base. It is piloted by General Morros. The Great Vega Daio give Morros a chance to rest and then send him on a mission to kill Duke Fleed.

General Morros was once Prince Morros of the planet Morros. He was Duke Fleed's best friend. They were both on Planet Fleed when the Vegan armada attacked. Duke Fleed saved his friend's life even though it put him in great peril. It was then that Duke Fleed received the red eschar on his upper right arm.

Prince Morros was later captured by the Great Vega Daio. He was brainwashed into thinking that the Vegans were his friends and that Duke Fleed was the one who destroyed Planet Morros.

Duke Fleed and Prince Morros fight first in their ships and then outside, on the ground, in the snow. Duke Fleed finally breaks the brain washing and convinces his old friend that they are still friends. Morros uses his pistol to cure Duke Fleed of the eschar on his right arm and then takes off for Skull Moon Base to get revenge but his ship is booby trapped and blows up before he gets there.

Thoughts

Danbei and Goro are not in this episode. Gandal (but not Lady Gandal) and Zuril are in this episode but they don't really contribute to the latest plan to kill Duke Fleed.

There is one scene that takes place at the ranch. It is set in Daisuke's bedroom at night. There is one scene that takes place at the Space Science Center.

I knew it wasn't going to end well for Morros. It never does for the one-off warriors who are sent to kill Duke Fleed.

This is considered to be a key episode according to Wikirak. My guess would be that is because this is the one where it is revealed how Duke Fleed got the eschar and also because he finally gets rid of it. The eschar first showed up in 2.04 (Story of the Red Eschar).

This was a decent episode given the constraints of the show.
