Brother, Can You Spare a Blonde?
Maddie needs to come up with $35,000 in a hurry or else the IRS is going to seize her house. Richard, David's brother, comes to town. He is loaded, with cash which he found in his car. He doesn't say anything to David and Maddie about how he got the money. He lets them think that he came by it honestly.
David borrows $37,000 from Richard. The next day he gives the money to Maddie. He tells her that he found it in an old bank account that the detective agency has that he forgot. Maddie is very grateful and doesn't question David's story. Ms. DiPesto is another story. The agency only has one bank account that she knows of.
Mr. Navarone, the man who left the money ($100,000) in Richard's car, travels from Philadelphia, PA to Los Angeles, CA looking for Richard and the money. He gets the two Addison brothers mixed up. He assaults David in the bathroom outside of the Blue Moon Detective Agency's offices.
David tells Richard about what happened. Richard comes clean about how and where he got the money. Richard spent a lot of the money. David, Maddie, and Richard try returning the stuff that David bought. They only manage to scrape together $33,000 by the time Navarone finds them.
Thoughts
The episode opens with David and Maddie breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the audience. They are filling time because the story was not long enough, or so they say.
The ending to this episode is a bit murky. It leaves a lot of things unresolved. It felt like this episode was supposed to be longer and either they couldn't think of how to resolve this story of they just didn't have the budget to make it.
Charles Rocket played the part of Richard Addison. This is the first of six appearances he makes on the show but it is the only one in the second season.
There is a scene where Richard and Maddie are playing a board game. Richard is reading a question from what looks like a Trivial Pursuits game card but when they show the board it is not a Trivial Pursuits board.
I enjoyed the episode. I especially like the dialogue. The story, especially the ending, left a lot to be desired. This isn't a favorite but I liked it.
