Rosalie
Rosalie, Justine's mother, comes to town looking for her daughter. Ruth is there when Rosalie shows up. Sam doesn't want her to take Justine away but he doesn't know what to do. Ruth wants to go but Sam asks her to stick around. There is lots of shouting, most of it between Rosalie and Justine. Justine goes with Billy to the dance, in a dress. She wasn't planning on dressing up for the dance but now that her mother's there, she does. It is almost as if she is doing it just to spite her mother.
Bash and Debbie go to a convention. They are there to try and sell GLOW to another tv station or network. They have just one episode left in the season before they get cancelled. They are a bit under prepared. They start a whisper campaign about GLOW. It works and they start getting lots of calls about GLOW.
The other women of GLOW spend their time preparing for life after GLOW. Rhonda reveals that she is in the country illegally. She is encouraged to go to the British consulate and get a visa so she can stay legally. She's reluctant but she goes and is told that she has 30 days to leave the country.
Justine goes to the dance with Billy. She wears the dress. Sam, Rosalie, and Ruth are there to chaperone. Billy suggests that they could run away to New York City. She's about ready to go. Sam confronts her about it, in front of Rosalie. He talks her out of leaving for the Big Apple but doesn't convince Rosalie to let Justine stay with him.
Carmen comes up with a solution to Rhonda's problem: she needs to marry an American. Earlier in the episode one of Britannica's fans tried proposing to her. Carmen suggests that this could be the center piece for the final episode of GLOW.
Sam dances with Ruth. they are dancing to Crazy for You by Madonna. (This song was sung by Madonna but she didn't write it.) They are dancing very close. Sam goes in for a kiss. Ruth isn't ready for it and leaves. Instead of going home she goes to Russell's place. She runs into him just as she is arriving. She's brought movies with her. He's got tacos. She tells him she likes him. They kiss. I don't know what else to say. It was a sweet moment.
Everything it going great for Bash and Debbie at the convention until he gets an unexpected call. He thought is was going to be another TV person calling to ask about GLOW. It is a doctor from a hospital calling to tell him that Florian just died, from pneumonia (which is clearly code for AIDS). Bash was listed as the person to contact in case of an emergency. Bash tries to deal with it but then can't and hangs up on the doctor.
Thoughts
I can't get over that outfit that Debbie wore in this episode. It seemed so out of character for her or at the very least it was a very different look from the one that she usually sports.
Part of me feels sad for Sam, because he got rejected by Ruth, but realistically speaking he's her boss. He probably doesn't know better but it would be icky, to say the least, if she chose Sam over Russell because of their working relationship.
Rhonda, for the first time, got a moment that I really liked. It was weird seeing her flustered when Cupcake, her admirer/stalker, proposed to her.
This was a really, really good episode. It ended with a real gut punch but that it isn't a first for GLOW. I enjoyed all three of the stories. There was no fat in this episode. This is GLOW at its best. I'm not saying that this is the best episode, it's a little early for that, but it is right up there in my book.
