Fargo 3.10

Somebody to Love

The IRS agent calls Deputy Burgle. Her name and number were in the packet of papers that he received. He assumes that she's the one who sent them. She wasn't. She was getting ready to resign at the time he called. She had put her resignation letter on her boss's desk and was packing up her things. She promptly retrieves the letter and goes to see the IRS agent.

Emmit is forced to sign lots of documents by Varga. He senses what is going on. He is selling the company for a bargain price after taking on a massive amount of debt. The debt is not part of the sale. He grabs a gun and tries getting the papers back but he's overpowered and knocked out. Varga, Meemo, and the rest of Varga's men wipe any trace of their presence and leave while Emmit is still unconscious.

Varga, Meemo, and the others go to meet with Swango. They need the hard drives back. They are led into a storage facility. They have the $2 million but it's a trap. Everyone except Varga is killed. Nikki takes a couple stacks of bills and gives the rest to Wrench. She just wants to get Emmit.

Emmit wakes up from his little nap. He has the stamp stuck to his forehead but he doesn't notice until he sees his reflection just before he gets in his car. He drives to the office where he finds that everything is being remodeled. The company is no longer his. It now belongs to Ruby Goldfarb. Security escorts him from the building.

Emmit takes off driving. He has some engine problem and his car stops in a deserted section of a state highway. He can't get a signal on his phone. A truck comes by and stops. Nikki gets out with a shotgun. She's getting ready to kill him when a state trooper pulls up. She manages to hide the shotgun before the trooper sees it. The trooper asks them what's going on. He asks to see some ID.

Emmit starts to tell him that she is armed and the trooper pulls out his pistol. Nikki grabs her shotgun. They both shoot at the same time, killing one another. Emmit ducked and was not hit. He gets back in his car. It starts up and he leaves. The police come and take away the bodies.

Emmit goes to his wife's house. He breaks down in tears. She takes him back. Time passes, five years. Emmit filed for bankruptxy and pleaded guilty to tax fraud. He was given two years of probation. It is suspected that he still has millions in an offshore account but nothing can be proven. Not everyone is satisfied. Wrench finds Emmit and kills him.

Gloria Burgle moves on and starts working for the Department of Homeland Security. Varga is caught coming into the country. She interrogates him. He pretends not to recognize her at first. He hasn't changed much. Her hair is different, longer but she hasn't changed much aside from that. He tries to tell her he's done nothing wrong. She tells him that in a few minutes a couple officers are going to come through the door and take him to Riker's Island. He tells her that in a few minutes a lawyer is going to come through the door and tell her that she has to release him. They stare at each other and the episode and the season end.

Thoughts

This was not as satisfying an end as I hoped it would be. I am okay with the ambiguity but I felt that there should have been more. I am glad that they didn't do anything like at the end of previous season to tie it into the first season. I am disappointed that Yuri never resurfaced. Some things were wound up a little too neatly and poetically. I'm thinking of the deaths of Meemo, the rest of Varga's crew, Nikki, and Emmit.
