She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 1.11

Promise

Adora enters the Beacon. Catra sneaks in after her. Adora wants to learn how to use the sword to heal Glimmer but as in 1.02 she has trouble getting the system to understand her commands. When she changes into She-Ra it recognizes her but it doesn't really help her get anything more out of it. The Beacon goes into attack mode once Catra makes her presence known by stealing a memory crystal.

She-Ra and Catra flee from spider robots that the Beacon sends after Catra. They evade the robots but then wind up in an area that scans their memories. It uses those memories to project younger versions of themselves. A number of scenes from years before are shown. Adora and Catra were good friends but Catra always felt slighted by Adora. Part of Catra's problem with Adora is due to the way that Shadow Weaver treated them. She always considered Adora to be more important than Catra.

Seeing younger versions of themselves doesn't help. Catra is reminded of how things were. Adora wants their relationship to be better. She tries talking Catra into leaving Shadow Weaver and the Horde but Catra only sees manipulation and selfishness in Adora's suggestion.

Adora gets separated from her sword. Catra decides she's had enough and does what she can to hurt Adora before leaving. Light Hope, one of the ancient ones, appears before Adora once Catra has left and tells her that she needs to let go.

Catra makes it back to the Fright Zone. She gives Entrapta the Memory Crystal that she stole.

Thoughts

This was a tough one to follow. There was a lot going on. The title refers to a memory from when Adora and Catra were much younger. Adora promised to always be there for Catra.

I am left wondering what it is that really irks or bothers Catra. Is it just that she needs to mature and learn to see things aren't as simple as they sometimes seem? I don't know. She obviously has some feelings for Adora that don't blend well with her role as Force Captain in the Horde. Things have changed and (in a sense) she and Adora have grown apart.

Adora is at least partly to blame for how Catra feels towards her. She is too protective. She needs to accept for who she is and not who she wants her to be.

This episode puts a new spin on this show. Adora's and Catra's relationship is much more complex than it first seemed. They both need to grow up but Catra seems the more immature of the pair. I am glad to see the show returning to these two. I feel that this is the heart of show. It is also a big part of what pulled me into this show after just a couple episodes.
