UFO Robo Grendizer 1.16

Victory of Love

Akira Hayashi, one of Professor Umon's assistants, is planning to get married. Kaori Shirakawa, his fiancee, comes to visit. A Vegan spy plants a mind control device in the flower Kaori wears in her hair. She is forced to do what the Vegan orders her to do. It is all a ploy to capture Grendizer and Duke Fleed, of course.

Daisuke sees Kaori wandering around after everyone went to sleep. The next day she asks Akira about Grendizer. He gets suspicious because he hasn't told her anything about the giant robot. Both men are suspicious of her but aren't sure what to make of their suspicions. Things come to a head after the Vegan shows up again, shoots Akira, and kidnaps Kaori.

Daisuke finds Akira and gets him medical help. Akira recalls a childhood memory of Kaori while he is recovering. They were both no older than Goro is now. Daisuke and Kouji let Akira rest up and go looking for Kaori. Kouji finds her back at the ranch.

Kaori has a gun that the Vegan gave her. She threatens to shoot Professor Umon after taking a shot at Daisuke. Kouji and Daisuke get ready to charge Kaori when Akira shows up. He tells her to shoot him. It is all a little too much for her. She recalls that they are planning to get married and drops the gun. Daisuke gets his hand on the mind control device and smashes it

The Vegan is irate. He gets in Saucer Beast Horo Horo, which brought him to Earth, and attacks. Kouji tries to take him on in the TFO but he winds up crash landing after the saucer beast strikes back at the TFO. Grendizer shows up next and takes out the saucer beast fairly quickly.

Thoughts

I thought this one was kind of goofy. The power of love.

Choppy story telling. One minute Kaori is being handed a gun and the next she has it trained on Professor Umon. There is no transition between the two moments.

I don't think that this is the worst but it is not a favorite of mine.

Grendizer isn't a part of this episode until the last 5 minutes.
