Justice League 2.13.A

Starcrossed - Part 1

The Justice League are in Washington, DC guarding the Kasnian peace conference when a giant spaceship attacks. Hawkgirl recognizes it as a Gordanian cruiser. It proves to be a little too much for the Justice League but then more spaceships appear and strike down the Gordanian ship. The other ships are from Thanagar. Hawkgirl's teammates quickly learn is her home planet. The commander of the Thanagarians is Hro Talak. He wants to meet with the Earth's leaders.

Commander Talak gives a presentation to the United Nations. He explains the danger that Earth is in from the Gordanians. He offers the assistance of Thanagar. The Earth's leaders need a little time to decide. Green Lantern meets Hro Talak and learns that Talak and Shayera are engaged. John is angry at her for not telling him about her people.

The Earth's leaders decide to accept the offer of help. The Thanagarians start to build a giant force field projector in the desert with some help from the Superman, J'onn J'onzz, Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman.

Batman sneaks on to the Thanagarian flagship with some of the world leaders who are being given a tour of the ship. He gets away from the group and learns that the Thanagarians intentions are more sinister than they have suggested. The Thanagarians spot him spying on them, chase him down, and subdue him. Batman gets out a message to Wonder Woman warning her of what he has found, just before he is captured.

Wonder Woman relays the message from the Watch Tower to the rest of the team, except for Hawkgirl who is now working for her people full time. Wonder Woman is captured by Thanagarians who attack the Watch Tower. US Army General Wells launches an attack against the Thanagarians but the Army's tanks and other firearms stop working as they approach the giant generator in the desert. Superman and the others are captured as they try to escape. The last one to fall is Green Lantern who is knocked out by Shayera after she lulls him into a false sense of security.

Thoughts

General Wells is a character who has only appeared in the Justice League cartoon and a couple comics based on the cartoon. In the credits his last name is spelled Welles but elsewhere it is spelled Wells. He also appeared in Secret Origins and Maid of Honor.

I'm not sure if or when the Gordanians ever crossed paths with the Thanagarians in DC Comics. They first appeared in New Teen Titans 1 (Nov 1980) and in several other issues from that series. They also made appearances in Green Lantern and Omega Men and some other comic books. This episode is the only appearance of the Gordanians in DCAU cartoons.

This is a great opening chapter for this 3-part story. It moves very fast but it doesn't seem too far fetched for this series.
