Fleabag 2.06

Episode 6

Fleabag wakes up in bed with the priest. It is the day of the wedding, her father's wedding. The wedding is held in the backyard of her father's house. Clare is wearing a wig, to cover up the haircut she got in 2.05. Martin is there. Clare doesn't want to deal with him. She comes clean in front of her father and tells Martin that she was the one who had a miscarriage, not Fleabag. She wants him to leave her. He says he won't unless she gets down on her knees and begs him to leave her.

Fleabag runs into the priest. He is practicing his homily. It is a secluded spot. They share a few words and then they make out for about a minute.

The Godmother pulls Fleabag aside and asks her if she is going to make a scene. Fleabag doesn't have any plans to do so. She returns the statue that she stole back in 1.01. The Godmother says something truly wretched. Fleabag gives the camera a look.

Fleabag's father is missing when the ceremony is supposed to begin. Clare and Fleabag spread out and go looking for him. Fleabag finds him in the attic. His foot is stuck in a hole in the floor. He claims he was up there checking on a mouse trap but she isn't buying it. She asked him to tell her the truth but he won't. She helps him get free from the hole and then go down to the wedding.

The priest has a moment as the ceremony begins. He curses. He says some distressing things about love. Fleabag is distressed by his speech. She urges Clare to go find Klare. Clare is reluctant but eventually she does leave, in the middle of the ceremony. She leaves the wig behind.

Fleabag runs into the priest at a bus stop. She was there first. He knew where to find her because he knew she was going to catch a bus home. The talk for a few. It is a long wait for the next bus. He winds up leaving. He does his best to let her down easy but he has chosen God over her.

Fleabag winds up walking home herself, by herself.

Thoughts

I really liked this end. There were laughs. I can see how maybe there could have been more but this seemed like a good way to end it. I didn't really expect the priest to want to continue the relationship. It makes the ending bittersweet but that seemed like an appropriate way to go.
