Justice League 2.03.B

Only a Dream - Part 2

Superman, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Flash have all fallen asleep trapped in their dreams. Flash dreams that he is taking care of some kids when they turn into monsters and try to eat him. He goes running off but then he discover that the world is frozen. There are people all around him but no one is moving.

Superman dreams that he is having dinner with Lois Lane when he loses control of his heat vision and accidentally kills her. Green Lantern dreams that the neighborhood where he grew up and lives has changed. No one recognizes him. They don't speak English and the words on signs look like gibberish.

Batman and Martian Manhunter find Superman and Green Lantern. They can't wake them up. J'onn takes them up to the Watchtower. Batman goes to look for Doctor Destiny.

Hawkgirl dreams that she has emerged from the dream only to discover that she is still in it. She falls from the Watchtower to Earth into a coffin in an open grave. The coffin closes and is quickly buried in the ground.

J'onn does what he can for his four teammates that can't wake up. He contacts Batman to let him know that Penny, John Dee's wife, didn't make it. J'onn has decided that if he doesn't go into their teammates' minds he may not be able to save them. Batman reluctantly agrees with this course of action while he continues to search for Dee.

Martian Manhunter enters Superman's dreams. He finds him at the Daily Planet, which is in flames. Superman has just killed Jimmy Olsen by accident. Superman is freaking out and flees when he sees J'onn. The martian pursues him. He catches up to him in Smallville where he helps him to recover control of his powers.

Martian Manhunter and Superman enter Green Lantern's dreams just as he is about to commit suicide. Doctor Destiny is there egging him on. His teammates' presence snaps Green Lantern out of it. Together they attack Doctor Destiny but he vanishes.

J'onn, Green Lantern, and Superman enter Flash's dream. The scarlet speedster is happy to see them but then they get frozen just like everyone else. J'onn tells Flash to look inside himself with his last words. Flash does something and the world around him unfreezes. Doctor Destiny shows up and attacks Flash and his teammates. They fight him but once again he runs away

Batman is getting sleepy and almost crashes the Batmobile during his search for John Dee. Batman stops at a coffee shop and gets a triple to help him stay awake. He continues to fight off the urge to go to sleep. He smashes the driver side window of the Batmobile and turns on some loud music. He stops driving when he gets to a Lex Corp warehouse.

Batman enters the warehouse. He hums a tune (Frere Jacques) as he looks for the fugitive. Doctor Destiny tries confusing Batman by making him think that he is an Escher-like building. Batman continues to hum the tune and that breaks the spell. He finds Doctor Destiny and gets into a fist fight with him but he proves to be no match for the Caped Crusader. He accidentally injects himself with a narcotic that he intended to use on Batman.

Thoughts

Wonder Woman is not in this story. There is no explanation given as to where she is supposed to be.

This is not my favorite Justice League story. I've seen worse and I like the setup to Only a Dream but the ending left a lot to be desired in my opinion. There were some aspects of the dreams that felt muddled to me. I didn't understand exactly what was up with Green Lantern or how Flash unfroze his dream world.

This one has its moments but more so in part 1. I want to like this one more than I do.
