Blaki decides that Japan will be the next base of Vegan operations. He sends a fleet of minifos to conquer the island country. Grendizer and Duke Fleed are ready for him. The minifo invasion proves to be ineffective.
A new Vegan ship arrives carrying Captain Whiter. He has orders from The home planet to kill Duke Fleed. He crash lands on Earth and using some of Vegan technology he assumes the identity of Doctor Space, a NASA scientist. He goes to visit Professor Umon and shows him a space crystal. Doctor Space sends Kouji on a mission, which is actually a trap.
Doctor Space has one problem that he isn't aware of, Blaki doesn't like him. Blaki follows the orders he receives from Captain Whiter and sends a swarm of minifos after Kouji and the TFO. Daisuke sees this and takes off in Grendizer to help his friend. Kouji is able to hold his own for a little while but there are too many minifos and eventually the TFO gets damaged and has to withdraw from the fight. Grendizer has arrived by then and draws their laser blasts.
Duke Fleed next takes up the task of fulfilling the mission that Kouij had been assigned. He heads to outer spaces and collects many space crystals like the one that Doctor Space showed to Professor Umon. They are an energy source but they are also quite explosive. Captain Whiter plans to kill Duke Fleed once he returns from space.
Captain Whiter gets it in his head that Danbei is Duke Fleed but he isn't fully convinced. He decides to test him. He quickly realizes that he's made a mistake and after thinking about it figures out that Daisuke must be Duke Fleed. He rushes back to the Space Center but he is spotted by Hikaru changing from his alien self into Doctor Space.
Hikaru tries taking a short cut but fake Doctor Space gets there ahead of her. He attacks her but Daisuke hears the commotion and comes to her rescue. Captain White runs back to his space ship. Daisuke changes into Duke Fleed and takes off in Grendizer, in search of the alien. He finds Captain Whiter and his saucer beast. They fight. Duke Fleed wins and Captain Whiter is killed.
Hikaru comes to see Daisuke at the Research Center. She returns the necklace he threw at Captain Whiter. He thanks her but then tells her not to come to the Center. She gets angry and tells him that she hates the invaders as much as he and will come to the Research Center whenever she wants to do so.
Thoughts
Not my favorite episode but it had some fun craziness to it
- Doctor Space aka Captain Whiter was just plain weird.
- I liked the brief glimpses at Duke Fleed's past, before he came to Earth. As usual those moments are shown but not animated.
- I loved how wacky it was that Captain Whiter thinks that Danbei is secretly Duke Fleed. I also love how Danbei thinks he must be dreaming when he sees Captain Whiter's true form.
- The first time Grendizer launches in this episode he takes route 7 but the second time he take the regular route. Why is Route 7, along the inside of the tunnel, written in English?
- When Captain Whiter originally crash landed on Earth it was in the Pacific Ocean. Just before the final fight his ship, which he left behind when he came to Japan, emerges from the reservoir near the space center.
- Duke Fleed collects the space crystals and brings them back to Earth but after Professor Umon and Doctor Space take a quick look at them they don't play a role in the rest of the episode.
