Mr. Inbetween 3.03

All I Ever Wanted

Gary finds out that his wife is cheating on him with a woman. Ray invites Gary to come stay at his place while he figures things out.

Freddie introduces Ray to Alfredo, a business associate. He's the one who hired Ray to rough up that guy in the previous episode. Alfredo wants to hire Ray to join his crew but Ray isn't interested. He's more of a freelancer than a joiner

Ray finds out that Brittany has a boyfriend. His ex-wife tells him but tells him not to let on that he knows.

Ray runs into Ally on the street. She's pregnant, more than 8 months. They talk for a few minutes before her ride shows up.

Ray goes home. There's a boy with Brittany, possibly the boyfriend. They are just watching TV. Ray isn't impressed with the boy.

Ray gets a call that night from the police that night. Something has happened to Bill Shoesmith, his father. Ray doesn't want to but he goes to get him. His father doesn't recognize him.

Ray contemplates handing his father over to social services. He can't imagine talking care of him. Late that night he father wanders out of the house naked. Ray finds him and leads him back to the house.

Thoughts

This was a very understated episode. There was no violence in it, although there were some mentions of it. This is a definite inbetweener, a bridge to another story. I've got a feeling that Alfredo will be back. He didn't seem happy when Ray turned him down. I will be surprised if Ray doesn't jettison his father at some point. That's based on what's come before. I would like to see Ray become a little more human but up to this point he always seems to be a little too cold to be human.

I'm not won over by this season just yet but I think I'm going to continue to watch. I have no idea how long it is. I know that there are at least 3 more episodes in it. The last season had 11.
