An Intense Crash; The Sea Is Blazing
or Clash! The Fiery Ocean
or Le réveil des volcans (The Awakening of the Volcanoes)
Underwater volcanoes erupt near a Japanese power plant. The Vegans detect that there is uranium released by the volcanos and send Saucer Beast Boi Boi to retrieve it.
The power plant is damaged. Duke Fleed in Grendizer plus Kouji and Hikaru in Double Spazer head to the power plant. They need to remove the uranium core before it explodes and causes great damage. They get to the core in time but then the saucer beast shows up. It detects the uranium in the core and tries to take it from them but Grendizer gets it to a secure location that the saucer beast cannot break into.
Gandal wants the saucer beast to attack and destroy Grendizer but Zuril thinks that they should send it after the uranium. Gandal gets his way until they suffer a power failure on moon base and are reminded how badly they need the uranium to power their operations. Saucer Beast Boi Boi had Grendizer on the ropes when it gets called off by Zuril to get the uranium revealed by the volcanic activity.
Grendizer is in bad shape and can't do anything to stop the saucer beast from retrieving the uranium. Spazer tries to stop the beast but it alone is not enough. Grendizer recovers and teams up with Double Spazer to destroy Saucer Beast Boi Boi.
Duke Fleed, Kouji, and Hikaru return to the Space Center. Professor Umon shows them his latest creation: Marine Spazer. It will be Hikaru's vehicle.
Thoughts
This is a key episode probably because of the introduction of Marine Spazer at the end of the episode. They show the new vehicle but not in action.
Saucer Beast Boi Boi seemed like it wasn't a space ship that someone was piloting but a sentient creature. I don't recall that ever being the case before.
Hikaru rides shotgun with Kouji during this episode. I suppose it is better than being left behind but she doesn't get a whole lot to do.
It was kind of funny how they were worried about the power plant exploding but there didn't seem to be much concern about what would happen when the saucer beast exploded while carrying uranium. I would think it would also cause an extreme amount of damage to anyone or anything in the immediate vicinity.
The saucer beast, as usual, was extremely tough until the very end of the episode.
On the whole this was not a great episode but I've probably seen worse in this series.
