UFO Robo Grendizer 2.15

The Launching of the Marine Spazer

or Marine Spazer, Intervene!
or Le baptême du feu (The baptism of fire)

The Vegans (Gandal and Zuril) come up with a new plan. They get a deadly beast from the planet Gamo and transorm it into a saucer beast. They call it Gamo Gamo. They send it to Earth to attack Grendizer and drag it into the ocean where Grendizer's abilities are severely limited.

Professor Umon and his team are working on getting Marine Spazer ready for Hikaru. She is training with Duke Fleed. They are practicing the move in which Marine Spazer and Grendizer merge. Hikaru is very nervous and can't get it right. She winds up injuring Duke Fleed while they are training.

The Vegan attack force, led by Gamo Gamo, arrives on Earth. Duke Fleed and Kouji take off in Grendizer and Double Spazer. Hikaru stays behind to continue training.

Kouji and Duke Fleed engage the Vegan forces. They are holding their own when the minifos that accompanied Gamo Gamo break away to look for uranium. Duke Fleed orders Kouji to follow them. Kouji reluctantly follows the order. Grendizer has a harder time fighting the saucer beast on his own.

Hikaru finishes her training successfully. She takes off in Marine Spazer to join the fight.

Grendizer gets knocked into the water and gets caught in a whirlpool created by Gamo Gamo. It isn't until Hikaru shows up that he manages to break free from the whirlpool. Grendizer and Marine Spazer merge and defeat Gamo Gamo.

Thoughts

There is no reaction shot at the end of Gandal and Zuril. I kind of wish there was. They must have been so disappointed.

This is a key episode according to Wikirak, most likely because it is the first time Hikaru joins the fight in Marine Spazer.

This was an okay episode. Hikaru sure sweat up a storm while she was training with Duke Fleed.

The episode follows a fairly predictable course of events. The saucer beast seems invulnerable at first but falls quickly once Marine Spazer and Grendizer have merged. It may be a key episode but it is far from a favorite of mine.
