An Emergency Situation in the Space Science Center

Professor Umon and his crew start to make improvements to the Space Science Center. They are almost complete when Professor Umon admits to Daisuke that he hates that the SSC has become a tool for war. His dream is to explore the mysteries of the universe.

The Vegans decide that the time has come to attack the Space Science Center. Zuril has built a new ship for Gandal with which he can lead the attack. Saucer Beast Gau Gau and a fleet of minifos accompany Gandal.

The Vegans attack. Kouji in Double Spazer is the first one one to engage the enemy. He faces off against several minifos and is doing quite well but he calls for help when he sees Saucer Beast Gau Gau. Duke Fleed in Grendizer quickly joins the fight. He takes on the saucer beast while Kouji deals with the minifos.

Saucer Beast Gau Gau dives into the deep lake near the Space Science Center. Duke Fleed gets Hikaru in Marine Spazer to join the fight. They merge and skim along the surface looking for the saucer beast. It surprises them and drags them to the bottom of the lake. It keeps them there while Gandal launches an attack directly on the Space Science Center.

Kouji tries to fight off the Vegans but there are too many of them this time. Professor Umon agonizes over it but he finally pulls the lever that activates the Space Science Center. It sinks beneath the surface and when it emerges it is armed with weapons and able to defend itself.

Duke Fleed figures out how to break free from Saucer Beast Gau Gau. He joins the fight once again and knocks out the big laser gun on Gandal's ship. Gandal gets away but the saucer beast is destroyed. The day is saved.

Thoughts

All versions of the the title capture an aspect of the story. 

I was kind of surprised by how long it look Duke Fleed to figure out how to break free from the saucer beast that was holding Grendizer at the bottom of the lake.

I was surprised that Hikaru didn't ask to join the fight earlier. No one told her to stay put in the Space Science Center but she also didn't make a move to join them.

This is a key episode and clearly that's because of the transformation of the Space Science Center. That event made this episode a little more exciting but it still falls short of being awesome or great.
