Save the Cat
Adora arrives on Horde Prime's flagship. She is there to bargain for Catra. She claims to be alone but Glimmer, Bow, and Entrapta are also aboard. They go looking for Catra and the server room, once Horde Prime's clones have taken Adora away.
Horde Prime isn't interested in bargaining with Adora. He shows her what he has done to Catra. She is transformed. Her hair is shorter. She is dressed in white. She now has an attachment on the back of her neck that allows Horde Prime to control her. Her eyes are not their usual color but instead they glow fluorescent green.
Bow and Entrapta try to find the server room while Glimmer looks for Catra. They meet one of Horde Prime's cones who is disconnected from the network. They convince him that they are also working for Horde Prime and so he tries to help them. Entrapta thinks for a moment that it might be Hordak but it doesn't seem to be.
Catra attacks Adora. She tries to take out her old friend. Adora tries to talk Catra into fighting Horde Prime's influence. The fight ends when they both fall from a great height. Adora gets up and finds them surrounded by clones of Horde Prime. Adora transforms into She-Ra and easily beats them.
She-Ra takes Catra and goes looking for the others. She finds them just in time, just as they are about to get overwhelmed by clones. She deals with the clones and then they depart in Darla, Mara's ship. She-Ra heals Catra and transforms back into Adora.
The episode ends with the clones looking through the mess that Adora and her friends left behind. One of them picks up a diamond shaped piece of metal. It murmurs Entrapta's name as it looks at its reflection in the shiny piece of metal.
Thoughts
I had my doubts early on but the ending of this episode more than made up for them. It felt very Star Wars, with Darla playing the part of the Millenium Falcon and Horde Prime's flagship playing the part of the Deathstar.
The clone at the end must be Hordak. I wonder what's next for him?
I was a bit taken aback by Catra's transformation. The glowing eyes were freaky. She really didn't act like Catra at all.
She-Ra's design looked a bit different in this episode. I suppose she probably has the ability to tweak or alter her appearance. I wasn't completely surprised when Adora changed into She-Ra but I did find it to be kind of moving. I was also moved by the moment when she healed Catra. I'm not really sure if she actually healed her or not but she held Catra's unconscious form and they both glowed.
I was thinking about taking a break after episode 6 or 7 but this seems like it might be a good place to break. I've made guesses about things like that before and been wrong. Maybe I should just stick with it until I've finished the season.
Overall, really high marks for this episode. I really enjoyed it. It delivered on a number of levels.
