Doctor Who (1963) 6.05.04

The Seeds of Death - Episode Four

The Ice Warriors, with the help of Fewsham, use the T-Mat to deliver exploding seed pods to stations in the Northern Hemisphere. Radnor and Professor Eldred just barely avoid death in the London station. They use the ventillation system to flush the dust that is emitted from the seed pods outside.

Jamie and Phipps rescue the Doctor, who is still unconscious. Ms. Kelly tries to fix the gadget that Phipps built and used against the Ice Warriors. Phipps wants to turn the heat in the Moon Base back up but it is guarded by an Ice Warrior. Phipps can't fit through the narrow access portal to get to it. Zoe volunteers to do it since she is smaller.

The dust from the seed pods that is flushed outside starts to bloom and creates a substance that looks like snow. One of the Ice Warriors arrives in the London Station. He kills the security guards and heads outside.

Zoe gets to the heating control with some help from Fewsham who distracts the guard. She turns the temperature way up but then the Ice Warrior sees her and starts shooting at her.

Thoughts

The Doctor is and isn't in this episode. I don't think that Patrick Troughton was in this episode. The Doctor was seen but never from the front and he didn't have any lines.

There are a few moments in this episode that just didn't make a lot of sense. I don't understand how Eldred and Radnor weren't killed first by the dust from the seed pod. Someone who was standing right next to them died almost instantly. They also should probably have been killed by the Ice Warrior that arrived at the London station but he seemed to ignore them.

There was a moment when an Ice Warrior shot at Zoe. She was out in the open. It shot at her from what seemed like close range but she wasn't injured or killed. It wasn't really clear but it might have been shooting at Phipps instead of Zoe.

This is probably the weakest episode in this story, up to this point. I'm still enjoying the story but it isn't blowing me away.
