Ernie gets into a fight with Joan. He tries to make it up to her but the gift he buys her gets mixed up with an engagement ring. She thinks he wants to get married. She's game and he can't get a word in edgewise to explain the mistake. He acts weird when he meets her parents but it turns out to be their kind of weird and they love him. The same is true when he meets her aunts.
Joan calls off the engagement when she find out, from someone else, that the ring belongs to someone else. Ernie, by then, has resigned himself to getting married but Joan is no longer interested.
According to this episode Ernie and Joan have been dating for 5 years.
Philippa Bevans plays the part of one of Joan's aunts. This is her second appearance (of eight) on the show. Her previous appearance was in 1.11 (Bivouac).
Virginia de Louse plays the part of Tillie the Torso, a burlesque dancer. This is her second (of four) appearances on the show. Her previous appearance was in 2.01 (Platoon in the Movies).
This wasn't a bad episode. It looked like they were really trying but it wasn't a great episode either.
