Gohrum! The Tragic Soldier
The Arcadia passes Jupiter on its way back to Earth. It encounters a weird asteroid field. Captain Harlock takes the wheel and steers the ship through the asteroids. The Arcadia is boarded by warriors from the planet Tokaga. Many of the Tokagans are killed but one escapes to the boarding ship. Tadashi follows him and boards his ship before it departs. The Tokagan ship takes off. The Arcadia follows. The Tokagan warrior is captured once Tadashi shoots the Tokagan commander.
Tadashi and the Tokagan warrior, Combat Commander Zol, are brought aboard the Arcadia. Their wounds are treated by Doctor Zero. Captain Harlock pulls Zol aside and has a talk with him. Zol tells him about how the Mazone killed most of the people of Tokaga. The survivors were trained to find and destroy the Arcadia. Zol is moved by the kindness that Captain Harlock has shown him. He gives Captain Harlock a cosmograph memory device which contains valuable information about the Mazone fleet.
A Mazone battleship finds the Arcadia and attacks. It is over a mile long. Zol leaves in his ship in the middle of the fight with the battleship. He attacks the giant ship and is destroyed. Captain Harlock uses the power of the Arcadia and the knowledge provided by Combat Commander Zol to destroy the Mazone battleship.
Thoughts
This episode puts me halfway through the run of this series.
The word Gohrum is a word of salute that Zol uses while he is drinking with Captain Harlock.
This was a decent episode, not great but good. It was more than just one big fight or chase. It had a few twists and turns. I like how this episode expands out the universe in which this story takes place a little bit.
