L'Engagement
or Commitment

Inspector Marchetti has a sting operation set up to catch people selling goods on the black market. It turns out that the Germans have a similar operation going. Marchetti tries arresting someone only to discover that it is a German police man, the same one that De Kervern met in Besançon in January.
De Kervern goes back to see Natacha at the brothel. He gets information from her that she got from Von Ritter, one of her clients. He also runs in to Marie Germain in Besançon. He recruits her to transport letters for him for the Resistance. She agrees to do it even though she has problems of her own with her husband who has been selling things on the black market.
Lucienne practices with the three German violin-playing soldiers. She thinks that Kurt, the soldier who recruited her to join the quartet, likes her. She finds a message from him written in letter cubes on her desk. She writes him a note which read "Me Too" and sticks it in his pocket. She later finds out that he isn't the one who left the message on her desk. It was her Jules Bériot, the principal, who left it.
Marcel gets out of prison. He gets into a fight with Daniel when he discovers that Marchetti bought Gustave a toy that used to belong to another boy whose family disappeared. They are 8 km from town but Marcel insists on getting out with Gustave and walking the rest of the way home.
Marchetti goes looking for something he can use against the German police officer. His investigation leads him first to the brothel and then to the home of Dr. and Mrs. Larcher. Doctor Larcher isn't home but his wife is. Marchetti talks her into allowing him to search through her husband's belongings. He believes that the German police officer has been getting drugs from Dr. Larcher. Hortense and Jean wind up making out (and possibly more) in Daniel's office.
Kurt is confused by the note that Lucienne gave him. She does her best smooth things over without explaining what she meant by it. Dr. Larcher hires a private detective to follow Hortense. Marchetti has a meeting with the German policeman. The German winds up recruiting him to find out who is transporting secret messages out of Villeneuve.
Thoughts
I'm a little confused by the scene with Jean and Hortense in Daniel's office. She asks him if he is going to tell her husband about what they did. It is ambiguous as to what she is referring to. Does that mean that she has cheated on her husband before, with Jean? Was she just referring to her allowing and helping him to search Daniel's office? They could both be right answers.
Lucienne is treading down a dangerous path? Where is a relationship with Kurt going to lead? Will Jules find out about it? What will he do when he does?
Marie Germain is the the courier that Marchetti is supposed to find. Will he? What will he do when he does? Will De Kervern find out that Marchetti is working for the German policeman?
This is a decent episode. I can see that things are still building. It's a good show but I'm just not blown away by this episode. It doesn't make me desperate for more.
