Dark Winds 1.04

Hooghandi

Raymond Begay is confronted by the Buffalo Society (Father Tzo, Frank Nakai) as he getting ready to exit the water at the reservoir. Tzo shoots and kills him. They weigh his body down and leave it in the reservoir.

Emma wants Sally Growing Thunder to stay with her and Joe when Sally gets out of the hospital.  Joe objects but Emma brings Sally home with her anyway. Joe is not happy.

Joe finds out about Chee and Manuelito. He's surprised by the reveal.

Leaphorn tasks Manuelito with finding Frank Nakai. Leaphorn and Chee dig into Father Tzo's past and find out that he had a twin brother.

Chee meets with Whitover to fill him in on how the investigation is going.

Manuelito investigates the reservoir above Father Tzo's grandfather's place.

The Mormon family continue to be held prisoner by the Buffalo Society.

Pete Samuels (who has been working with the Buffalo Society) makes an offer to the man who own the mineral rights on the reservation.

Father Tzo and Frank Nakai set a trap for Leaphorn and Chee. It is almost successful but Manuelito hears the shooting from the reservoir and joins the fight. Frank Nakai is taken into custody. Father Tzo escapes on horseback.

Chee and Leaphorn get into a brief altercation, after Nakai has been secured.

Thoughts

According to my research, this episode's title translates to home or at home.

I'm unclear on the timing of when Manuelito arrived at the reservoir. How did Tzo and Nakai not know she was there? Where was her car? How did Nakai get there? Where was his vehicle. The police vehicle that Leaphorn and Chee drove up in was the only one in sight.

This was better than the last couple episodes, or at least it seemed better to me. It still doesn't measure up but I probably would be more satisfied with the season up to this point if episodes 2 and 3 had been more focused on the case like this one was. I feel a little better about finishing out the season but I'm not so sure about watching beyond the end of this season.
