Return of the Tragic Priestess, Kikyo
Inuyasha, Shippo, and Kaede survive the fall from the bridge. They rush to find Kagome. Kaede suspects that Urasue is going to use Kagome's soul to bring Kikyo back to life. Urasue does just that.
Kagome uses shards of the Shikon Jewel to try to prevent Urasue's magic from separating her soul from her body but it is too late. Kagome falls into a deep sleep as her soul leaves her body and reanimates Kikyo.
Kikyo attacks Inuyasha and accuses him of betraying her. He insists that he is innocent of harming her. Kikyo hits Inuyasha with an arrow that seems to kill him. Kikyo seems satisfied with Inuyasha's demise and Kagome's soul departs her body and returns to Kagome's body.
Kikyo still burns with anger and runs off. She tries jumping off a cliff but Inuyasha grabs her hand before she falls. Kikyo wiggles free of Inuyasha's grasp and falls far below.
Inuyasha reflects on what he remembers of the past, of what Kikyo was like 50 years ago, before she died the first time. He recalls how she wanted him to use the Shikon Jewel to become human. She reasoned that if he did then it would lose all its power and she would no longer have to guard it. She could then become an ordinary woman.
Thoughts
A hefty portion of this episode is devoted to Inuyasha and Kikyo's memories of half a century before.
This was an interesting episode. It looks like Kikyo is gone but I'm pretty sure that she will be back. I don't know when. It doesn't look like she is in the next episode, based on the preview at the end of this episode.
