starring Carrie Crowley, Brid Brennan
directed by Damian McCann
92 minutes
in Irish with English subtitles
Mairéad (Carrie Crowley), Cáit (Brid Brennan), and Sheila hold up a local credit union in a small Irish town. Dara and Colly, owners of the recently closed local quarry, are in the credit union at the time of the time of the stickup. There is more to the actions and identities of the robbers and the customers present than meets the eye.
I saw this film as part of the 2026 Capital Irish Film Festival at the AFI Silver Theater.
This story starts at the end and then gradually works it's way backward to explain who the robbers (and customers) are and why they are robbing the credit union. Everything is explained in the end but the story takes some time getting there. There must be at least a half dozen jumps backwards in time, I lost count. It was confusing to watch at first. Bit by bit the story unfolds but it required some patience on my part. Towards the end of the film the story finally returns to where it began, by which time I had considerably more context for what I had already seen. I was very impressed by this film.
