Electric Sheep
The Orville gets some upgrades but some of the crew, in particular Charly Burke (the newest member of the bridge crew) and Marcus Finn, continue to blame Isaac for helping the Kaylon to wreck havoc on Earth and the fleet of ships that worked to defend it. Isaac decides that it would be better if he was no longer around and fries his circuits.
Repairs to the Orville finish and the ship departs Earth. Lieutenant Commander LaMarr comes up with a possible way to bring Isaac back. He needs some help from Charly but she refuses to help.
The Orville is randomly attacked by a Kaylon ship. Captain Mercer comes up with a plan that fools the Kaylons into thinking that they have been destroyed in a galactic storm. Marcus has a change of heart about Isaac. He talks to Charly and convinces her that despite how she feels about Isaac that it would be best for her to help John repair Isaac and restore him to working order.
Thoughts
This season of the show is officially called The Orville New Horizons but it seems silly to me to restart the numbering of episodes. The cast is basically the same.
This is the first of five episodes in which Yaphit appears in this season. Norm Macdonald, the voice of Yaphit, died about 9 months before this episode aired. This episode was dedicated to him. I'm not sure what the production schedule was for this season or if they recorded Yaphit's lines in advance.
The Orville looks fairly different, on the inside, than it did in the first two seasons. The funny thing is that no one on the show mentioned it. I guess that they were all too busy dealing with the Isaac issue.
I was initially pleased to see that they were dealing with the aftermath of the last episode of the previous season. That was basically the high point of the episode for me. I found the episode to be, for the most part fairly bland. I understood what they were getting at but it didn't feel genuine or earned. It felt forced.
