directed by Delmer Daves

92 minutes

Dan is desperate for money to feed his family. It isn’t until the man who owns the stagecoach offers $200 to anyone who is willing to get Ben on the train to Yuma that Ben steps up. Ben repeatedly offers Dan considerably more money if Dan will just let him go but Dan refuses Ben’s offers. Ben points out that his gang will be back to free him and that they won't hesitate to kill anyone who gets in their way. Dan insists on completing the job he was hired to do despite the impossible odds.

Ellie pokes holes in Susan's story. Susan finally admits that she was on the beach and saw a boat come in to the beach. The man in the boat came ashore and dropped Danny's body off and then left. Thoughts

Lee Meriweather played the part of the younger Natalie. This episode is her only appearance on this show. I know her best from Batman (1966) in which she played Catwoman.

Combat Zones

The story of the exploits of the five film directors continues in this episode. The story picks up where it left off and goes up to just before D-Day in 1944. The same talking heads that appeared in the first episode are also in this one. Once again there are archival interviews the five directors at the center of this story.

Topics discussed include
  • difference between war in the movies and the reality of war
  • use of animaiton in the Why We Fight series and in the Private Snafu shorts
  • Wyler's abortive role in making a movie about Black soldiers in the US Army
  • the spill over from Ford's civilian working relationship with Daryl Zanuck
