The Invisibles
starring Don Gordon, George Macready, Dee Hartford,
written by Joseph Stefano
directed Gerd Oswald
Two men, Planetta and Spain (Don Gordon), join a secret organization known as The Invisibles which is a front for an alien invasion of Earth. Planetta and Spain survive the indoctrination process, which kills another man who tried to join at the same time as them. Spain is secretly an agent of the GIA, tasked with infiltrating the Invisibles. He is sent by The Invisibles to Washington, DC to turn General Hilary J. Clarke.
The Invisibles are on to Spain. It is a trap. Spain is assigned to be General Clarke's chauffeur but before he can do anything he learns about the trap and that they intend to turn him into a spy for them, inside the GIA. His attempts to escape are unintentionally sabotaged by Clarke's young wife (Dee Hartford) when she accidentally hits him with her car.
Spain manages to escape Clarke's home although he is pursued by Mr. Fair, Mrs. Clarke's social secretary. Spain goes looking for Planetta but discovers that Planetta has been told that he's an agent of the GIA and given the assignment of turning Spain to the side of The Invisibles.
Thoughts
This episode doesn't completely make sense if I think about it too much but I enjoyed it. The critters in this episode did not creep me out. They were way too phony looking to make me do anything other than roll my eyes.
Notes
This is the first of two episodes of this show in which Don Gordon appeared. He also appeared in episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955), The Twilight Zone (1955), Kraft Suspense Theatre, and The Invaders.
George Macready played the part of the man in charge of The Invisibles. This is the first of two episodes of this show in which he appeared. Roughly two months ago I saw him in Paths of Glory (1957).
This is the only episode of this show in which Dee Harford appeared. She also appeared in episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959) and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Neil Hamilton played the part of General Clarke. This is the first of two episodes of this show in which he appeared. He also appeared in a couple episodes of Kraft Suspense Theatre but I know him best as Commissioner Gordon from the 1960s Batman TV show. I also saw him in a silent film a few years ago, Why Be Good? (1929).
Richard Dawson played the part of Mister Fair. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He also appeared in an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. I know him best from Hogan's Heroes and Family Feud.
This is the sixth of 12 episodes that Joseph Stefano is credited with writing. This is the fifth of 14 episodes of this show that Gerd Oswald directed. The previous he directed was 1.17 Don't open Until Doomsday which was also written by Joseph Stefano.
