Tomorrow Is Tomorrow
Blackthorne and the others leave Osaka by ship. They encounter many obstacles in getting out away from Osaka. At first it looks like Toranaga is staying behind but he employs a bit of subterfuge to get away from the castle. The deception is discovered before they reach the ships when the Catholic regents send a force to kill Blackthorne.
Buntaro, Mariko's husband, doesn't make it to the boats in time. They don't go back for him. He dies fighting. Once they get to the boat, the same one that brought Blackthorne to Osaka, they discover they have a new problem. There are lots of little fishing vessels in the water filled with men who look ready to board them if they try to get out of the harbor.
Toranaga makes a deal with Ferreira, the captain of the Black Ship, which is also getting ready to leave the harbor. The captain of the black ship agrees to help Toranaga but only if he leaves Blackthorne behind. Toranaga agrees to Ferreira's terms. Blackthorne manages to just barely escape the harbor in the other ship thanks to Rodrigues.
The episode ends with Blackthorne showing Toranaga how to dive and Toranaga bestowing the title Hatamoto on Blackthorne.
Thoughts
Now that Mariko's husband is out of the way that clears the way for romance between Blackthorne and she.
I still like this but I have to say that it feels rushed. Some things get explained away a little too easily or not explained at all.
