The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie
directed by Martin Scorsese

180 minutes

Stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardi DiCaprio) makes it big on Wall Street, starts a company that grows from nothing into something big. He hires a guys who know nothing about the stock market and turns them into the core of his operation. Belfort's ambitions know no bounds. He, his company, and his employees break all kinds of laws in doing business. The FBI and the SEC eventually investigate him and his company. He stays ahead of them for a while but he continues to conduct business in the same manner despite knowing that he's taking big risks.

Thoughts

There are a lot of familiar faces in this movie including Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, Jon Favereau, Joanna Lumley, Cristin Milioti.

This movie is well made and is not boring. Those are the best things I can think of to say about this film.

There is a certain amount of gratuitous (female) nudity in this film. Did it all need to be there? No. Could most if not all of it have been toned down or eliminated? Yes.

Martin Scorsese certainly does like to make movies about (to put it lightly) flawed men. I've seen more than a few of them. They are not identical but it does seem to be a theme with him. Some of those films are better than others. I don't hate this movie but I certainly don't love it.
