The Yamato arrives at Bemela 4, an earth-like planet. A small team led by Kodai is sent down to the surface to investigate. Misaki is among them. She still seems a bit out of it. She seems to have gaps in her memory that she can't explain.
Ito, the security chief, takes advantage of the situation. He uses the security forces to launch a coup while Captain Okita is sick in bed. Chief Intelligence Officer Kaoru helps him by talking Chief Navigation Officer Shima into joining the coup.
Kodai and the others on the surface have no idea what is going on above them. They investigate the planet and find evidence that the Iskandarians were there hundreds of years before.
Ito orders the Yamato to leave Bemela 4. He also reveals what he has found out about Mori, that she is not human but from Iskandar. Kodai and the rest of the away team rush back to the departing Yamato.
The coup is unsuccessful as Kaoru and Shima decide that they have made a mistake in siding with Ito. Hosina, also of the security division, steps in at a crucial moment to help them and later reveals that he was sent to ferret out a group that was believed to be disloyal to the Iskandar plan.
Thoughts
There is just so much going on. I really need to watch this one again. I didn't even mention the role that Yamamoto played.
It is interesting to see the pieces come together but the further I get into this series the more I wish it was stretched out over a longer run of episodes. There is just far too much going on.
