Point of No Return
The Gamilan forces, led by General Domel, set a trap for the Yamato.
Life aboard the Yamato has become less bearable as the ship runs out of supplies, most notably food.
Yamamoto grows despondent when she sees Kodai and Mori together.
Yuria continues to act strange. She asks lots of questions about the wave motion gun and the wave motion engine. Is it her or the spirit of the Yamato speaking through her?
Kaoru approaches Shima, the chief navigator. She's up to something but it isn't clear exactly what she is up to.
The Gamilan supreme leader is on his way to visit one of the Gamilan bases when his ship is attacked and destroyed. The Gamilan high command is thrown into disarray.
The Yamato waltzes right into the trap. They attempt to charge through the trap. The ship heads straight for the Gamilan command ship. The Yamato sustains a lot of damage. The General Domel is ready to deliver the final blow when he gets a call ordering the Gamilan fleet to pull back and return to their homeworld.
Thoughts
This felt a bit unsatisfying. There were lots of little suggestions of things to come but the meat of the episode seems to have been the trap set by General Domel. The most unsatisfying part is how the Yamato managed to survive this battle. The odds seemed a little too great. There were dozens if not more than 100 enemy ships. I liked the little character moments but the big battle didn't do much for me.
