Captain Harlock suspects that the large ship headed for Earth may belong to the Mazone.
Mayu is punished for not wrinting a letter to Captain Harlock. She has to scrub the floors in the school's chapel. She works all day and into the night trying to finish cleaning the floors in the chapel.

Dr. Daiba pays a visit to the leader of Earth's government. Dr. Daiba tries to warn him about the object approaching Earth but the man won't listen. Captain Harlock shows up and tries to scare him into listening to Dr. Daiba. He tells them about the Mazone who want to invade Earth. Dr. Daiba believes him. Captain Harlock isn't successful but Commander Kiruta shows up before the conversation can go any further. He tries to apprehend Captain Harlock but he escapes.
Commander Kiruta goes to see Mayu. She still refuses to write a letter to Captain Harlock. He takes her ocarina and throws it up on the roof of the chapel. It lands on the steeple. Captain Harlock and his crew attempt to destroy the alien ship but their weapons are useless against it. It continues to head towards Earth. Mayu climbs up on the steeple to retrieve the ocarina. She gets to it but then falls from the steeple. The alien craft, which looks like a giant black orb, crash lands on Earth in the middle of a city. The impact of the spaceship causes great gusts of wind, one of which catches Mayu and prevents her death. She lands gently on the Earth, unconscious but once again in possession of the ocarina.
Thoughts
Who are the Mazone and what do they want with Earth? Why does the headmistress want Mayu to write a letter to Captain Harlock? How is that supposed to get delivered?
Despite its faults this series seems fairly smart coming out of the gate.
