Can't Save You

Ray, Ally, and Bruce take Brittany to a forest to see a unicorn. Brittany loves it, totally believes that what she's seeing is a unicorn. Ray takes Brittany bowling later. Jacinta, Ray's ex and Brittany's mother, gives him a hard time about giving Brittany the sex talk (see 2.03). He has to explain why he had to do it.

Ray takes Brittany on a play date. Her friend's father seems to be someone who is in the same line of work as Ray or at least was. Brittany catches Ray smoking and makes him promise to quit. He tries explaining to her about addiction but she just wants him to stop. He promises to try.

Ray, Brittany, Ally, and Bruce exchange Christmas presents. Ray and Brittany meet Ally later on at her parents' home. They spend the day there eating. Ray gets edgy and feels like he needs a smoke but he wants to keep his promise to Brittany.

Ally's parents play a game that they call Secret Santa. Everyone picks a number out of a hat. They take turns picking gifts from under the tree but if they don't like the gift they can take someone else's gift. Brittany winds up with a unicorn shaped candle, thanks to her Dad, but then Trent, Ally's brother, takes it.

Ray tries to get Trent to give the unicorn candle back to Brittany. Trent doesn't feel like and accuses Ray of being a dick. Ray punches Trent through a glass door. Ray and Brittany leave the party. He takes her home to her mum. Ray grabbed the candle before they left. He told Brittany that Trent slipped and fell.

Ray goes to see Ally. He apologizes but that isn't good enough for her. She tells him about a guy she dated for three years. She broke it off because he had a temper and started hitting her. She hung in there for a while hoping that she could save him but ultimately she realized that she couldn't. She doesn't want to take a chance that the same thing will happen with Ray so she ends it.

Thoughts

This is more like it. This is the show that I like. This was good stuff. I thought that maybe Ray wouldn't lose his cool but he did. Either way I figured he was going to need to blow off some steam. It was just a question of how. The final scene with Ray and Ally was very moving.

I don't think that this is it for Ally. I'm pretty sure that she will be back. Brittany, if no one else, is going to want to know what happened to her.
