Young Justice 2.18

Intervention

Black Beetle ends his fight with Mongul with some help from Green Beetle. They lock Mongul back in a stasis chamber. The crystal key to War World is gone. The Justice League is still guarding the chamber where the locking mechanism is housed. Black Beetle has orders not to engage the League but to maintain a safe distance and observe.

The escapees from War World return to Earth, to their new de facto HQ in Bludhaven. Impulse insists that they need to save Blue Beetle. They don't have a readily available plan.

Two weeks go by. Blue Beetle has been sent by the Reach to fight crime in Metropolis. Jaime is still conscious within the suit but the scarab is in charge and it serves the Reach. Impulse and Batgirl observe the Blue Beetle from a distance without tipping off Jaime, the scarab, or the Reach to their presence.

M'Gann travels to Poseidonis to find Lagaan. He is very eager to see her. She does not feel the same. She needs to have a talk with him and they leave in her bio-ship. 

Batgirl and Impulse catch up to Blue Beetle in El Paso. They attempt to apprehend him but he overpowers them. The Reach gives him orders to kill the heroes but before he can carry out those orders two more heroes join the fight. Rocket creates a force bubble around Blue Beetle which Zatanna reinforces with magic. Blue Beetle cannot escape the force bubble and reluctantly stops attempting to escape it.

The heroes take Blue Beetle to Bialya. They take him to an underground temple. Zatanna starts to work some magic just as Green Beetle, sent by the Reach ambassador, arrives. He is there to free Blue Beetle. He takes down Batgirl and Impulse. Rocket and Zatanna are otherwise occupied with Blue Beetle but more heroes arrive to join the fight. Beast Boy, Bumble Bee, Wonder Girl, and Robin even the odds in the team's favor. Zatanna works her magic and in conjunction with the forces present in the temple she frees the two beetles of the Reach's control.

The team flies back to Bludhaven. They explain to Blue Beetle about the temple, how they found it, and how they knew it would come in handy. They also take the opportunity to tell him about his predecessors: Dan Garrett and Ted Kord.

M'Gann and Lagaan arrive in Bludhaven after having their chat. Lagaan is not happy. M'Gaan asks Dick if he's seen Connor only to learn that he is out with Wendy Harris.

The episode ends with the reveal that Queen Bee knew what the heroes were up to in Bialya and didn't make any serious efforts to stop them.

Thoughts

I was happy to see that they opened this one with the conclusion of the fight between Black Beetle and Mongul.

The strongest character moments were the brief moments with M'Gaan and Lagaan. I also enjoyed the three way conversation between the Reach ambassador, the scarab, and Jaime. 

This was a strong episode. The only part that I thought was weak was the data dump of information on the flight back from Bialya. Aside from that this last batch of episodes continues to impress me.
