The Phil Silvers Show 2.11

Where There's a Will

Gregory Chickering, one of the guys in Bilko's platoon, gets discharged from the army. Chickering's uncle dies. He thinks he stands to inherit quite a bit of money, but all he gets is a parrot. Chickering turns to Bilko for help. Bilko shows up in disguise with four of his men (Barbella, Doberman, Henshaw, Fleischman). They pretend to be part of a gang with whom Chickering's uncle used to run. They fool Chickering's relatives into thinking that there is buried treasure somewhere in the world and only the parrot knows the name of the island where it can be found.

Thoughts

Bruce Kirby plays the part of Gregory Chickering. He died in early 2021 at the age of 95 but his last screen credit was from 2009. This is one of two episode of this show in which he appeared. The other episode is the last episode of season 2. He plays a different character in that episode. These two episodes are among his earlies screen credits. He is also the father of actor Bruno Kirby.

This is an okay episode. The only way in which it stands out is the way in which Bilko pulls some of his men into the scheme he runs to help out Chickering. I think it ends a bit abruptly. I would say this is a good but not great episode. I enjoyed Doberman's part in this episode possibly more than I did anything else about it.
