Borderline (1950)

starring Fred MacMurray, Claire Trevor, Raymond Burr
directed by William A. Seiter

Los Angeles Police Officer Madeline Haley (Claire Trevor) is sent to Mexico to make contact with and learn what she can about a drug smuggling operation run by Pete Ritchie (Raymond Burr). She finds him but after shooting him she goes on the run with Johnny Macklin (Fred MacMurray), one of Ritchie's associates.

Ritchie pursues them as they make a run for the US-Mexican border  with some of his drugs. They pretend to be newlyweds. Ritchie catches up to them a couple times but they evade capture and make their way back to the United States where they learn that they are on the same side of the law. Macklin, whose real name is McEvoy, is also a cop.

Thoughts

I thought this was a crime film but it feels more like a romantic comedy disguised as a crime film. It's okay but it really isn't my cup of tea. I didn't think that the chemistry between MacMurray and Trevor was particularly noteworthy.
