Chicanery
The episode opens with a flashback to years earlier. Chuck is recently divorced from Rebecca but he has invited her over for dinner. Jimmy is also there. The power isn't on. Chuck lies to Rebecca about the reason why the power isn't on. He doesn't tell her about his condition. She takes a cell phone call during dinner. Chuck slaps the phone out of her hand in the middle of the call. He doesn't tell her why he did that. She leaves angry at him.
The New Mexico bar hearing opens. The tape is played. Howard testifies. Chuck testifies. Kim takes the lead and cross examines Howard. Jimmy takes over once Chuck takes the stand. Jimmy tricks his brother. He proves that the condition isn't real. Chuck gets angry and goes off on Jimmy. He insists that they need to disbar his Jimmy.
Mike is not in this episode. He is mentioned once but not by name.
This is a very focused episode. There a few scenes, after the flashback at the beginning of the episode, that take place away from the courthouse, but not many.
There is one scene of Jimmy and Kim brushing their teeth at home. I think it is the first time they have been shown together this season away from the courthouse and the office.
I had trouble figuring out how Jimmy was going to prevail. The panel of lawyers has yet to render their judgement at the end of the episode but presumably they are not going to disbar Jimmy. I think I understand now what Jimmy did. He proved that his brother had been lying to him all along which calls into question Chuck's integrity. If Chuck has been lying about his illness for a decade then what else might he be lying about?
This was a very good episode. I liked it but I don't think I liked it as much as some of the earlier ones.
