Invasion of the Dinosaurs - Part Six
The dinosaur that was threatening the Doctor gets distracted by another dinosaur. The two large reptiles fight while the Doctor escapes. He runs into General Finch who is ready to arrest him when the Brigadier and Sergeant Benton show up. The Brigadier and General Finch argue over who has jurisdiction. The Brigadier wins the argument and takes the Doctor back to the command post.
Butler locks up Sarah in a storeroom but she escapes. She makes it back to the "spaceship". She tries to warn the others but with the exception of Mark they do not believe her. She and Mark, the guy who saw her exit the "airlock", get locked up. One of the leaders on the "spaceship" starts to have doubts and calls Sir Charles Grover.
Captain Yates confronts the Doctor, the Brigadier, and Sgt Benton. He orders them at gunpoint to stop their planning and allow Sir Charles plan to proceed. Yates gets distracted by another soldier who suddenly enters the room and Benton is able to overpower him.
Sir Charles arrives on the "spaceship" in a "space suit". He comes through the same "airlock" through which Sarah left in the previous episode. He confronts Sarah about what she tried to do. Their conversation is overheard by Adam, one of the leaders on the "spaceship". Adam convinces the others, after Sir Charles has left, to give Sarah a chance to explain.
The Doctor and the Brigadier go down into the subway station. They use explosives to blow a hole into the underground bunker where the time travel machinery is found.
Sarah convinces the other passengers on the "spaceship" by opening the "airlock". They leave the ship and make their way to the control room. Whitaker and Sir Charles are about to execute the final phase of their plan just as they arrive. The Doctor and the Brigadier arrive just in time to thwart the plan, thanks in part due to the the Doctor's alien physiology.
Thoughts
The scene where the two dinosaurs fight early in the episode made me laugh. I doubt that was the intended result. Even by the standards of the the early 1970s it didn't look very impressive.
The commentary on this episode was led by Toby Hadoke and included Peter Miles (Professor Whitaker) and Terence Wilton (Mark). I didn't make the connection until I was watching this episode but Peter Miles played Nyder in Genesis of the Daleks in Season 12.
This installment is no different than the others in that there are things that go unexplained or just drop out of sight without much in the way of explanation. I like how Sarah has her own plot within the story. I think Jon Pertwee is starting to grow on me. I wasn't crazy about him at first but I'm starting to like him. This isn't a great story but it was fun and better than I feared it might be.
