Better Call Saul 3.09

Fall

Jimmy checks in with one of his former clients, Irene, the class action rep for the Sand Piper case. He finds out from her how much Sand Piper is offering to to settle and that she has not agreed to it.

Mike meets with Lydia. She talks him into going along with the plan that Gus came up with to launder his money. Mike is very reluctant but he eventually decides to do it.

Chuck and Howard find out that not only is the insurance looking to raise Chuck's malpractice insurance rates but also the rates for all other lawyers at HHM. Chuck refuses to listen to anything the insurance company representatives have to say. Howard tries to encourage Chuck to retire and move into academia. Chuck refuses to consider that option.

Kim meets with her new client, Gatwood Oil company. She experiences some car trouble and almost gets stranded in the desert. Kim uses a little ingenuity and gets her car working again.

Jimmy confronts Howard about the settlement that Sand Piper has put on the table. Howard refuses to consider Jimmy's arguments. Jimmy goes to work on Irene and her friends. He isolates Irene and makes her friends think that she is up to something.

Hector meets with Gus. They get a call from someone higher up the food chain. He wants them to keep smuggling drugs in via the route that Gus has been using. Hector is livid. He has an attack. He calms down after he has taken a pill or two.

Nacho tells his father that Hector Salamanca is going to visit his shop. He tries to talk his father into playing along with Salamanca, for now. He promises that it will only be temporary. Nacho's father refuses to listen and kicks him out.

Jimmy shows up at the Wexler McGill office just as Kim is getting ready to head to a big meeting with Gatwood Oil. Jimmy announces that the Sandpiper case is about to settle. He wants Kim to celebrate with him. She is too focused on her meeting. She leaves for the meeting but before she gets there she passes out and crashes her car in the desert.

Thoughts

There's a little bit of everything in this episode but it is mostly Jimmy's episode. Mike only gets the one scene. Nacho is in two scenes but only the second one is his.

What is up with the pills. They seemed to work. I thought Nacho slipped him something that didn't work. Hmmm.

How far is Chuck willing to go just to get his way? He doesn't seem to understand the concept of cost benefit analysis. He seems to think that he is on the side of right but what is so right about getting your own way?

I'm not sure where things go from here. I kind of wish I wasn't such a stickler for watching just one episode per week.

This was a good episode. I don't think it was great. I am still committed to sticking with this show but this episode did not blow my socks off.
