Moonlighting 1.02

Gunfight at the So-So Corral

Maddie comes in for her first day at the Blue Moon Detective Agency only to find that no one is doing anything that resembles work. She is ready to call the whole thing off when David tells her that there is a client arriving at their offices in 20 minutes. David rushes out, grabs Farley Wrye, who was sitting in the reception area of another business, and presents him as their new client.

Wrye explains that he is dying and that he is looking for his son, Michael. He offers to pay them $10,000 if they can find him before he dies. They take the case and go looking. The only clue they have is that the father thinks Michael maybe in a shady line of business.

David and Maddie go to a bar in a rough section of town. David asks the bartender if he has seen Michael Wrye. The bartender reacts violently when he hears the name. He pulls them into a back room and explains to them that Michael Wrye is a hitman.

Maddie has dinner with Farley that night. She can't bring herself to tell Farley that his son is a hitman. She and David go back to the office after dinner. Michael Wrye is waiting for them. He wants to know why they are looking for him. He explains that his father is dead and he wants to know who really hired them.

Maddie and David figure out who their client really is. They pass that information along to Michael who asks them to arrange a meeting with Frankie Tate, the man who claimed to be his father but is actually another hitman.

Thoughts

Tim Robbins shows up in the first five minutes of this episode. He plays yet another hitman who tries to kill Tate.

I think I saw this one before, way back when. There was more than one scene that rang a bell. I'm pretty sure that I had no idea who Tim Robbins was when I first saw this episode.

This story got a little too silly and melodramatic for me towards the end of the episode. I would not place this episode on the same level as the pilot.
