Orange Is the New Black 6.11

Well This Took a Dark Turn

Hopper shows Aleida what he found, the drugs he had him unknowingly smuggling in to Litchfield. He's had enough of her act. She's had enough of his and goes stomping out of his home.

Chapman continues to lead the practice sessions for the kickball team. Baddison gets more and more annoyed with her and tries to frame her by planting drugs in one of her shoes but Chapman gets lucky and evades detection during a search by the COs.

Suzanne and Doggett team up to try and figure out who is trying to kill Berlin. They overlook one of the inmates they question but something they say clicks with Berlin. She confronts the other inmate and then frames the other inmate for trying to kill her.

Morello is still fully on Barb's side. Nichols is not but pretends to be. She manages to foil an attempt to murder Carol, Red, and a few other inmates. There is some suspicion cast on her after that but she manages to wiggle her way out of a beat down or worse by saying the right things Barb and her closest allies.

Caputo visits Bursett. He tries to talk her into filing a law suit against MCC. She is suspicious but agrees to meet with a lawyer that he sends to the prison. Linda Ferguson visits Bursett and offers her a cash settlement ($300K) and early release in order to keep her mouth shut. Bursett takes it.

Ruiz tries talking to Mendoza. Ruiz wants to come clean but Mendoza just winds up making her feel worse. CO Blake convinces Ruiz not to be so down on herself and to go to prayer meeting. The prayer meeting goes well until Hoefler, the babykiller, admits that she was the one who almost killed Ruiz by drowning her in the toilet. Ruiz seems ready to attack Beth but instead stomps out of the prayer meeting.

Cindy continues to experience back pain. Flaca puts it in her head that it might be something other than her back that is bothering her. Cindy tries to talk her lawyer into letting her change her statement but she ultimately decides to stick with what she has already has said even though she knows that it is a lie.

Hopper changes his mind about what Aleida was doing. He decides to willingly help her. It rekindles their relationship.

The episode ends with Carol and Barb being put in a cell together.

Thoughts

There is no backstory spotlight in this episode. Fig does not show up in this episode. The only scenes that take place outside of Litchfield take place in Hopper's home. There was some mention of the betting pool but it was more of a background than a foreground plot point.

This was a really good episode. I think that Hopper's partnership with Aleida might be the thing that saves Taystee. I think he's going to get caught and that is somehow going to blow the lid off the attempt to frame Taystee for the murder of Piscatella. I don't know what's going to happen to Nichols but right now she's walking on thin ice. It was hard to see Cindy stick to her statement in court. I thought that maybe she would recant and tell the truth but she didn't/ I'm not sure what is up next for Ruiz. Is that it for her this season or will she have another big moment?

That was an intense ending to this episode. I'm pretty sure that at least one of the Denning sisters is going to die in the next two episodes. I'm not sure which.
