Invincible 2.00

Presenting Atom Eve

This is the story of Samantha Wilkins, the girl who became Atom Eve, how she got her powers, and what happened to her real mother. Samantha's birth mother was part of a government experiment to create a super-weapon. Samantha was supposed to be the super-weapon. Dr. Elias Brandyworth, the scientific head of the project, experienced a change of heart when Samantha's mother was close to being ready to give birth.

Dr. Brandyworth broke Samantha's mother out, of the government lab where she was being kept, and took her to a normal hospital. She died but Samantha survived. She was switched with another child and was raised by the Wilkins who never knew the truth about Samantha's origins.

Samantha was extremely smart from a very young age. She eventually discovered she had super-powers. She saw Dr. Brandyworth from a distance but assumed be was a creep. It wasn't until she was trying her hand at crimefighting for the first time that she talked to Dr. Brandyworth. He explained everything to her and advised her not to use her special abilities.

Samantha didn't listen and soon thereafter four kids, younger than herself, whose bodies are falling apart, come after her. Their leader explains that they are her siblings, the further output of the government project of which her mother was a part. The man who runs the project wants her back.

Thoughts

Mark Grayson shows up briefly at the end of the episode but he does not encounter Samantha or Atom Eve in this episode. Omni Man shows up twice in this episode, once in the early going, along with the Global Guardians and then again at the end along with his wife and son.

This episode is officially titled Episode One of Season 202 of Invincible. I'm wasn't sure how to square that with the numbering schemes I usually use for TV shows. That's why I have decided to number this episode 2.00. I have no idea how it will mesh with the rest of Season Two of Invincible.

This was decent but not great. Some aspects of the story felt rushed. Samantha's adopted parents felt kind of one note, especially her father. This doesn't give me a lot of hope for Season Two of Invincible.
