An earthquake beneath the sea causes problems for the Vegans. One of their undersea monitoring stations gets pushed to the surface. They send a saucer beast to destroy it. The saucer beast also destroys a passing ship.

The Grendizer team and their friends are celebrating the New Year. The celebrations are interrupted by the news that a ship was lost. Maria in Marine Spazer and Kouji in Double Spazer are sent to investigate. Maria gets trapped underwater by giant seaweed. Kouji swims down using scuba gear and finds that not only is Marine Spazer trapped by giant seaweed but it is also surrounded by cyborg sharks.

Kouji gets Marine Spazer free just before the saucer beast shows up. They make it back to the Space Science Center safe and sound but Kouji sustained some injuries on his left leg from the cyborg sharks.

Grendizer and Hikaru in Marine Spazer return to the site to investigate further. They get attacked by the saucer beast. It pins them beneath the sea and then covers them with heavy rocks. They struggle to escape. Water starts to leak into both Grendizer and Marine Spazer. They radio back to the Space Science Center but there is nothing that anyone can do to help them. Finally Duke Fleed tries using full power and breaks them free. The saucer beast comes after them but he throws it into a nearby volcano.

Thoughts

This is a Key Episode according to Wikirak, possibly because it is in this episode that the Grendizer team discovers that the Vegans have a secret underwater base. Six of the remaining eight episodes are coded as Key Episodes.

This is the second episode of this show with cyborg sharks. The other one was 2.20 (The Sharks Falling from the Sky).

I liked the tension in this episode. I knew that Duke Fleed and Hikaru would survive but it really seemed like their lives were in danger when they were trapped underwater.
