Haunted Houses

Marty beats up the two young men who were caught having sex with his daughter. He seems to gives them an option before he does it: take the beating or else get charged with statutory rape. They seem hesitant so he makes the decision for them.

Rust continues to investigate cold cases, in 2002, cases that he thinks might be linked to the murder of Dora Lange. He gets in trouble for doing that. He doesn't get Marty involved in or keep him apprised of what he is doing. Among the people he talks to are the girl who they found locked up in Ledoux's home and the revival tent minister from the third episode. Eventually he gets in trouble with Salter, their boss, for working these cases on the side.

Kim and Amanda are kidnapped, not long after they arrive in Paris. The people who kidnapped them have no interest in ransoming them. They just want to sex traffic them to whomever will pay them the most money.

Reporter Bill Berkson (Art Carney) is sent to Hollywood to write a profile of a rising star, comedian Jerry Giles (Jackie Gleason). Berkson and Giles don't exactly click. Berkson sees how things go for Giles on and off camera. He's there when Giles gets his big break and sees how he treats people. Giles loves to be loved and it annoys him when Berkson doesn't laugh at his jokes.

Berkson continues to follow Giles around as he starts to work on his television show. The assistant director on the show is Peggy Trent, who used to be in a relationship with Bill. He tries to renew that relationship but she is more interested in her career. She doesn't care for Giles at first but once she sees him do something nice for a friend of hers she changes her attitude toward Jerry.

Aizen Assassinated! The Darkness which Approaches

Fifth Squad's Lieutenant Momo Hinamori screams when she sees Captain Aizen dead, pinned to the wall. She remembers what Tenth Squad's Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya told her the day before about Third Squad Captain Gin Ichimaru. She attempts to strike Ichimaru down but Third Squad Lieutenant Izuru Kira steps between her and his captain and parries her strike. Momo unleashes her Zanpakutō. Izuru quickly follows suit but Captain Hitsugaya steps in and breaks up the fight before it can go any further. He orders those standing around to lock up both lieutenants.

He seems to know something about German submarines but beyond that he's a blank slate.

Love Letters

Moira returns from the film shoot in Bosnia. She finds some love letters that another woman wrote to Johnny. She doesn't want to ask him about them so she shows them to everyone else in town instead. Eventually Johnny finds out about the love letters and confronts Moira.

Rose Apothecary is held up by a man wearing a ski mask. David and Stevie are the only ones in the store at the time. There's no money in the register so they give the robber wine and cheese and other products. Patrick doesn't find out about the robbery until later.

Alexis admits to Ted that she got rid of some of the gifts he gave her when the split up.

Errand of Mercy

The Enterprise is on its way to Organia when it is attacked by a Klingon warship. Captain Kirk knew that relations with the Klingons were on the decline but war had yet to be declared when the Enterprise was attacked. The Enterprise returns fire and destroys the Klingon ship.

Kirk and Spock beam down to Organia in the hopes of negotiating with the people who live there. They warn the leaders of Organia that the Klingons are on their way and that it would be far better to make an alliance with the Federation than to become a vassal of the Klingon Empire. The Organians refuse to accept that they are in any danger.

The Avengers 4.21

A Touch of Brimstone

Steed and Peel investigate a series of incidents in which diplomats and leaders from other countries have been humiliated via practical jokes. It is all harmless until a foreign diplomat gets electrocuted. Steed and Peel’s work leads them to the Hellfire Club.

Peel catches the eye of Cartney, leader of the Hellfire Club, and gets to attend one of the club’s parties. Darcy, a member of the Hellfire Club, interrupts the party. He feels guilt over what happened to the dead diplomat and wants answers from the club’s leadership. He doesn’t get answers but a meeting is called at which he is murdered.

Steed applies for membership in the Hellfire Club. They warn him that they are dedicated to evil but Steed insists that he wants to be a member. He passed their tests and is accepted into the club.

Adventure Time 5.06

Jake the Dad

Jake tries to be the perfect father to his and Lady Rainicorn's five kids. He uses the manual that he got from his mother. He stays up all night keeping an eye on the kids but then he can barely keep his eyes open the next day. He tries reading a book to them about a fox that likes to eat babies but then realizes that it is wildly inappropriate. He throws the book away but then a fox finds it and shows it to some other foxes.

Thoughts

I didn't realize that Lady Rainicorn was about to have babies. I don't know if any hints were dropped in earlier episodes.

Finn is in this episode but this one is mostly about Jake.

This was a lot of fun. I loved the parts with the foxes.

Steven Universe 1.33

Garnet's Universe

Garnet asks Steven if he knows what she did. He sees that she has a gem stone and comes up with a story about how her day went. She has two companions in Steven's story, Hopper (a frog) and Hoppy (a rabbit). Garnet, Hopper, and Hoppy attempt to help a hapless temple guardian only to discover that he has been lying to them.

Thoughts

Amethyst and Pearl do not appear in this episode. Hopper was voiced by the actor who usually voices the part of Pearl. Hoppy was voiced by the actor who usually voices the part of Amethyst.

This was an okay story. I like the alternate animation style in the depiction of Garnet's adventure. It isn't the style of it so much as it is the fact that they decided to do something different with this episode.

She finds him a program for deaf people with drug problems.

Sampson recovers the ransom money but the movie ends on a very ambiguous note.

Star Trek: Lower Decks 2.02

Kayshon, His Eyes Open

Kayshon, the new security Chief, leads an away team consisting of Mariner, Tendi, Rutherford, and Manhaver to the ship of the collector Kerner Hauze. They are there to help inventory the items in the collection. Siggi, the chairman of the Collectors Guild, requested the help. He supervises their work. Instead of letting Kayshon and the others do their job he gets in the way and sets off a defense system which kills him and threatens to kill the others.

One of the security systems transforms Kayshon into a puppet version of himself. Mariner and Manover bicker until they finally realize that their arguing is putting them all in danger. Mariner asks Rutherford and Tendi to come up with a plan to get them out of there, alive, which they do.

True Detective 1.05

The Secret Fate of All Life

Cohle uses Ginger to get a meeting with Reggie Ledoux in a bar. Ledoux isn't interested in doing business with Cohle. Ledoux leaves but Hart tails him. They find Ledoux's hideout. They try to take him but when Marty finds two kids, one dead and one alive, he kills Ledoux's accomplice. Ledoux accidentally kills himself while trying to escape by running into one of his own booby traps. Marty and Rust modify the facts for the official story. Only they know what really happened.

Life goes back to normal. The story flashes forward from 1995 to 2002. Marty has cleaned up and reconciled with his wife. His relationship with Audrey, his older daughter has gone downhill. She's caught in a car having sex with two guys who are about 20 years old. She is in her mid-teens.

Devil in the Dark

The Enterprise visits the Janus VI mining colony, a vital source for Pergium. A number of miners are dead, killed by a creature first encountered after the mining operation expanded down into a new level.

Vanderberg, the chief engineer at the mining colony, wants the creature killed. The creature strikes again while Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are investigating. It knocks out a key component of the mining operation’s life support system. 

Spock speculates that the creature might be a silicon based life form. McCoy laughs at Spock’s idea but Spock and Kirk later see the creature and confirm that it is indeed a silicon based life form.

Tragedy of Dawn

Ichigo and Renji are too injured to continue fighting. Both of them collapse, unconscious. Ganju and Hanataro hear someone coming. They grab Ichigo and find a place to hide. Hanataro starts to work on healing Ichigo.

Kira and a few other men find Renji. They get him to a bed. Kira is about to get some medical help when Captain Byakuya Kuchiki, Renji's boss, shows up and says that he wants Renji locked up for failing to defeat the enemy.

Fifth Division Lieutenant Momo Hinamori is stunned by Captain Kuchiki's coolness. Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya shows up and warns her to beware of Captain Gin Ichimaru. Hitsugaya isn't sure what he's up to but he seems to suspect something.

Rumi hides a secret from her teammates that threatens to break up HUNTR/X. Jinu, leader of the Saja Boys, learns of Rumi's secret but uses it first to get close to her and the two meet a few times away from their respective teammates. Both try to lure the other over to their side. The showdown between the two groups occurs at the Annual International Idol competition.

The police surround the hotel. Chuck runs inside. He wants to help Eddie shoot his way out of there. Eddie decides he would rather ruin Chuck's impression of him rather than get him killed.

Doctor Who (2005) 1.03

The Unquiet Dead

The Doctor and Rose land in Cardiff in 1869, although the Doctor thinks at first that they have landed in Naples in 1860. There are ghost like creatures possessing dead human bodies. Charles Dickens is in town. The Doctor and Rose meet Dickens and the ghosts.

The Doctor tries to help the ghosts. They are victims of the Time War, or so they say. They also claim to just want to attain physical form again. The rift that connects their world to the Earth is found in the morgue of that belongs to an undertaker's business. Gwyneth, the undertaker's assistant turns out to be the key to letting them through the rift and also to destroying the rift.

Santa Claus and the 10th Ave. Kid

Five-time convict Harold Sears (Barry Fitzgerald) is given a job (while on parole) as a department store Santa Claus. He doesn't really care for the job but he does it. Clementine Webster (Virginia Gregg), his parole officer, does her best to encourage him to he honest and avoid things that will get him sent back to prison. One of the kids who comes to see him, the 10th Ave Kid, isn't buying Sears act. Sears sees that the kid is headed for trouble and tries to do him a favor but in doing so Sears almost gets himself locked up again.

Star Trek: Lower Decks 2.01

Strange Energies

Mariner goes on an away mission led by Jack Ransom. She tries to clean up the planet on which they have landed and winds up unleashing strange energies that give Ransom god-like powers. He unleashes his new powers on the Cerritos because he is sick of playing second fiddle to Mariner who has been on really good terms with Captain Freeman ever since 1.10 No Small Parts ended.

Tendi fears that Rutherford has changed and won't want to be her friend anymore. She attempts to cure him of synthetic memory degradation (SMD) while he is on a date with Ensign Barnes.

True Detective 1.04

Who Goes There

Rust and Marty interrogate Charlie, Reggie Ledoux's old cell mate. They talked to Charlie once before; he's also Dora Lange's ex-husband. Dora was the murder victim from the first episode. Charlie helps them get a line on Tyrone Weems, who might know where to find Ledoux.

Lisa tries talking to Marty but he cuts her off and walks away. He goes home later only to find that Lisa was there. Maggie has packed up his stuff. Maggie and their daughters have gone to stay with Maggie's parents. Maggie has had enough. He wants to do something about it but his efforts prove to be ineffectual.

Steven Universe 1.32

Fusion Cuisine

Connie's parents want to meet Steven's mother and father. Steven freaks out at first because his mother is no longer around. He still has a father but picking among Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl to pretend to be his mother proves problematic. He winds up bringing a fused version of the three in place of his mother.

Connie's parents are stunned by the size and appearance of Steven's "mother". Connie's parents are about to forbid her from ever seeing Steven again when the three defuse and harangue Steven for attempting to run away with Connie.

Adventure Time 5.11

Bad Little Boy

Ice King tells some captives a story about Fionna and Cake. Marceline interrupts Ice King's story time and comes up with an alternate story about Fiona and Cake. This one involves Marshall Lee luring Fiona out to a party thrown by Lumpy Space Prince. 

Thoughts

This was the next available episode on Hulu. It wasn't until after I watched it that I discovered that it was the 11th episode of Season 5.

This is the second episode in which Fionna, Cake, and the rest of the gender flipped characters appear. Their first appearance was in 3.09 Fionna and Cake. I watched that episode in 2015. I should probably watch that one again.

This was fun. I had completely forgotten about Fionna and Cake. Their next appearance isn't until Season 6.

The Avengers 5.10

Never, Never Say Die

A motorist hits a man with his car. The man is taken to the hospital and declared dead on the spot. Moments later, without saying a word, the dead man comes back to life and leaves the hospital. Steed and Peel are called to the hospital to investigate. They talk to Whittle, the motorist, who is completely mystified by what happened but glad to know that he didn’t kill someone.

Steed and Peel's investigation leads them to a second meeting with Whittle, a fight with the undead man, a trip to the Ministry of Technology - Neotoric Research Unit (MOT-NRU), and the discovery of a plot to replace government officials with duplicates who like the one Whittle hit with his car.

The Six Million Dollar Man 1.06

Doomsday, and Counting

Colonel Vasily Zuchov, an old friend of Steve is visiting the United States when he gets word that there has been an earthquake near Kamkov Island. He rushes to get back there. Steve goes with him.

Vasily and Steve learn, once they get to Kamkov Island, that Irina, Vasily’s fiancée and a computer expert, is trapped in the tunnels beneath the base. The two men, despite being given express orders not to attempt to rescue Irina, grab some gear and head underground. 

Vasily and Steve find Irina. She is unconscious when they find her but she recovers and tells them about the failsafe device on the island that will destroy the entire base in a nuclear blast in less than an hour.

The Watchman

Reporter Jack Fleming (Jack Warden) receives a summons from Ramon Castillo (Telly Savalas), a former leader of rebel forces in Spain, a man he has known for over 25 years. Jack reflects on his past encounters with Castillo as he talks to his psychiatrist, before and after going to see Ramon. Jack was in love with Helena (Victoria Shaw), Ramon's woman. He was always afraid of expressing or acting on those feelings. He finally does when he goes to see Ramon in Spain and it gets Helena and Ramon killed by Ramon's righthand man.

Miracle! The Mysterious New Hero

Interlude - Yuzu finds a cat. Karin thinks that it is just the spirit of cat but Yuzu insists that it isn't. Hollows come after Karin and the cat which she has named Raku. Jinta, and Ururu, lend a hand in fighting the Hollows. Don Kanonji wants first Karin and Jinta and then later Ururu to be his disciples. In the end it is the spirit of the cat, which takes on the form of a lion, that defeats the Hollows before transitioning to the afterlife.

Thoughts

There are no scenes in this episode that take place in the Seireitei. Yuzu and Karin's father makes a brief appearance in this episode. The contents of this episode are not part of the manga series from which the rest of the this season was adapted.

Star Trek: The Next Generation 7.01

Descent - Part Two

Lore and Data, but mostly Lore, explain in vague terms how things have changed. They also reiterate their intent to wipe out the Federation. 

The Enterprise, under the command of Doctor Crusher, starts beaming up away teams. They get most of the crew back aboard when the Borg ship attacks. The Enterprise returns fire and starts to leave the area and head back to Federation space. Worf and Riker remain behind on the surface of the planet.

Doctor Crusher plans with her crew to see how they can covertly return to the planet.

He gets to see how he became the person he is today, how the people he knows celebrate Christmas, and what is going to happen if he doesn't change his ways.

The Leather Funnel

Steven (Simon Ward) travels to Paris to visit Veronique (Jane Seymour), a young woman he met in London. She isn't home when he gets there. He winds up talking to Arnaud (Christopher Lee), Veronique's uncle, who shows him a leather funnel and asks Steven what he thinks of it. Steven doesn't have much time to consider it for Arnaud has drugged him with a mild sedative.

Steven falls asleep and has a dream. A young woman of a noble family accused of the murder of her father and her brothers in his dream. She shows no fear when she is convicted and sentenced to torture and then execution. The leather funnel plays a part in the torture. He wakes up before the dream gets terribly violent.

Arnaud asks him about the dream but then they are interrupted by the arrival of Veronique. Steven is happy to see her but then he notices the uncanny resemblance to the woman in his dream.

Schitt's Creek 5.01

The Crowening

Johnny misses Moira and annoys Roland by doing all the chores around the motel. Moira works on getting the director of the movie she's working on to consider some of her rewrites. David gets Patrick to go on a double date with him, Alexis and Ted because he fears that their relationship isn't doing well.

Thoughts

I really enjoyed this episode. All three subplots made me laugh.

Doctor Who (2005) 1.02

The End of the World

The Doctor takes Rose to the distant future to witness the day the Sun expanded and destroyed the Earth. The TARDIS lands on an observation platform near the Earth. They are joined by a dozen or more guests who are there for the same reason. The Faceless Meme, one of the guests hands out gifts that look like spheres but actually contain little spider-like robots.

Rose gets a bit weirded out by the other guests. She tries talking to the Doctor about it but he just weirds her out some more when he explains to her how it is that everyone seems to be speaking English.

The Twilight Zone (1959) 1.09

Perchance to Dream

A man goes to see a psychiatrist. He hasn't slept in almost four days. He's afraid of falling asleep because of the dreams he's been having. He tells the psychiatrist about the dreams. His plan doesn't exactly work.

Thoughts

There wasn't enough here to hook me. There was a twist ending but it wasn't too surprising. It didn't add a layer to the story that made it seem worthwhile to me. I was left feeling like there was something missing.

Adventure Time 5.05

All the Little People

Finn finds a little bag filled with miniature versions of Jake, himself and all the people they know. He watches them interact for a while but then he starts to interfere with the lives of the miniature people. Jake gets weirded out and leaves for a while. When he come s back, 16 weeks later, he finds out that Finn is really obsessed with the lives of the little people.

Thoughts

This was funny. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Steven Universe 1.31

Keep Beach City Weird!

Steven has fun hanging out with Ronaldo, who has all sort of conspiracy theories about Beach City. The fun ends when Steven realizes that Ronaldo's theories can all be easily disproved. He shows Ronaldo the error of his ways but that kind of breaks Ronaldo's spirit so Steven tries to do something to cheer him up.

Thoughts

This was okay. I laughed once or twice.

True Detective 1.03

The Locked Room

Rust and Marty track down the preacher who used to lead services in the church near Spanish Lake. They find him with a congregation under a tent. They listen to him for a while and argue about stuff while he is preaching. They talk to him and some of the congregants after the service. A couple women remember the dead woman. They remember seeing her with a tall man with a scarred face.

Marty and Rust argue about stuff. One day Marty comes home and finds Rust there talking to Maggie. Rust returned the lawn mower he borrowed and then mowed the lawn when he saw it needed mowing. Marty gets angry at him for mowing his lawn.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 2.08

Necessary Evil

A Bajoran woman pays Quark to retrieve a box hidden aboard the space station. She says it only has sentimental value.

Quark and Rom retrieve the box. Quark breaks it open and finds a piece of paper inside with eight names on it. He sends Rom to get an imager. A Bajoran man shows up before Rom returns with the imager. The Bajoran shoots Quark and takes the paper.

Odo investigates what looks like murder. He gets some information from Rom. Odo recalls another investigation he conducted when the Cardassians ran the space station. He was pressed into conducting the investigation by Gul Dukat.

The two spend time together, her punishment for the womanizing activities which got him recalled to Sylvania. They fall in love and get married. He is made Prince Consort of Sylvania, but the post does not come with any duties or responsibilities or say so in matters of governing Sylvania.

Corpus Earthling

Paul (Robert Culp) is alone in his wife Laurie’s (Salome Jens) lab when he discovers that he can overhear a conversation between two rocks. He tries to tell Laurie and Jonas (Barry Atwater), her coworker, about the voices he is hearing but they can’t hear them. He doesn't know it but it has something to do with a metal plate in his head. Laurie takes Paul home. One of the rocks grows and attacks Jonas after Paul and Laurie leave.
