Ménage à Troi
Commander Riker and Counselor Troi and her mother are abducted by Ferengi captain Daimon Tog. Lwaxana Troi finds Tog repulsive but he is infatuated with her and her telepathic abilities which he hopes to use to make money. She has no interest in changing her mind but in the interest of getting herself, her daughter, and Commander Riker away from the Ferengi ship on which they are being held against their will, Lwaxana feigns interest in Tog.
Riker tricks one of the Ferengi guards into releasing him, after which he works to get a message back to the Enterprise. Unable to send a message through the normal channels he encodes a message within the subspace distortion that the Ferengi shup is putting out.
The Enterprise finds the Ferengi ship, thanks to Wesley's picking up on the encoded message in the subspace distortion. The episode ends with Captain Picard pretending that he is in love with Lwaxana Troi and will kill anyone who stands between he and she, before Daimon Tog finally hands her over.
Thoughts
I don't recall seeing this episode before.
This is the third episode of six episodes of TNG in which Lwaxana Troi appeared.
I laughed a few times but I found the plot to be a bit thin. I didn't laugh enough at this episode to make up for the lack of plot or character moments. This was not as brilliant nor as funny as the two previous episodes that featured Lwaxana Troi. Tog was infatuated with Lwaxana but couldn't he have found another Betzoid to help him in his business dealings?
Frank Consentino played the part of Tog. This is the second of two episodes of this show in which he appeared. He was also in one episode of Voyager. He played Ferengi characters in all three episodes of Star Trek in which he appeared but each time it was a different Ferengi.
Ethan Phillips played the part of Farek, the science officer aboard the Ferengi ship. He was part of the main cast of Voyager, appearing in all but a few episodes of that series. He did not play a Ferengi in Voyager.
