Un Village Français 6.05

L'Homme sans nom
or The Man Without a Name

Schneider, the German commander, orders Blanchon, the commander of the French militia to kill the Jewish prisoners. Blanchon refuses. Schneider is about to order to tell his men to kill the prisoners when Marchetti shoots Schneider point blank. Chaos erupts at the train station. Marchetti grabs Rita and their son and gets them out of there.

Hortense gets questioned by the American commander. She sticks to her story that she just met the German with whom she was picked up. They lock her up with several other women, one of whom is Jeanine Schwartz. They talk. Hortense feels better but before long Jeanine betrays Hortense, revealing to the Americans who she is and the identity of the man with whom she was picked up.

Marchetti and Rita take refuge in an abandoned farm house. They talk. She doesn't feel kindly to him at first but over time she begins to soften. She tells him about what brought her back to Villeneuve. They eventually have to go looking for food when their son gets hungry. They talk some more. One unit of Resistance fighters finds them but leaves them alone, unaware of who Marchetti is, although they mention his name and refer to him as the Butcher of Villeneuve.

Lucienne continues to care for the wounded German soldiers. She is joined by Doctor Larcher who agreed to help the Germans if they will not kill Gustave, whom they were getting ready to execute. Lucienne helps Doctor Larcher operate on a badly wounded German soldier.

Antoine and Suzanne continue to hide out. She convinces him to have sex but then he has trouble performing. She tells him a story that she heard Marcel tell Gustave. Later they meet up with the rest of the Resistance fighters. De Kervern has arrived back in Villeneuve. He is the new prefect. He's livid at Antoine and Suzanne for what they did and that it led to the deaths of Marie Germain and six others.

Marchetti and Rita keep moving. They take refuge in another abandoned house. More Resistance fighters come by. They hear the little boy crying. Rita walks out with her son, leaving Marchetti behind.

Lucienne is called back to duty caring for German soldiers. One of them who is covered in bandages and badly burned reminds her of Kurt.

Thoughts

Jeanine finally showed up again but there is still no sign of Jules. Heinrich was seen briefly in this episode. Is that it for him? I think it probably is.

Was that really supposed to be Kurt? I'm not sure. It seems kind of incredible that they would be brought back together or that she would recognize him given how covered he is in bandages. I can accept that she might think it is him or want to believe it is him but that's about as far as I am willing to take it.

The scene with Suzanne and Antoine in bed together was a bit much for me. Once she started to tell him a story it made me look at their relationship in a completely different light.

This episode wasn't as tense or suspenseful as the last few. What's going to happen to Hortense? Probably not good things. I don't think she will get executed but I might be wrong.
