Amazing Stories (1985) 1.02

The Main Attraction

starring John Scott Clough
written by Brad Bird, Mick Garris, Steven Spielberg
directed by Matthew Robbins

Brad Bender (John Scott Clough) has his life turned upside down the day before he expects to be named prom king. A meteorite crashes through the window of his bedroom. His body becomes magnetized which in turn makes his life a living hell.

Thoughts

The first half of this episode makes it seem like Brad has it all. It is halfway through the episode that the meteor crashes through Brad's window turning his life upside down.

This was not a good episode. It was played for laughs but it was so heavy handed with the attempts at humor that I didn't find it to be funny in the least bit.

Notes

This is the first of two episodes of this show that Brad Bird had a hand in writing. He also played a minor character in this episode. He is better known as a writer and director of Pixar movies, some of which I have seen including Ratatouille (2007). This is the first of nine episodes of this show that Mick Garris had a hand in writing. He directed one episode of this show and one of Tales from the Crypt.

This is the only episode of this show that Matthew Robbins directed. He only has eight directing credits on IMDb. I've seen four of the eight things he directed. He has 25 writing credits on IMDb but he did not have a hand in writing any episodes of this series.
