A Girl Crosses Over the Rainbow Bridge
The Vegans are building a base near Mount Boki Dik Observatory. Saucer Beast Gani Gani is guarding the base and creates an earthquake which destroys a house. The only survivor of the earthquake is Miuke, a young girl. Both her parents were buried in the avalanche which the earthquake caused.
Miuke is rescued by Daisuke and Kouji who get to the mountain in a helicopter and bring her to safety in a helicopter. She is still in some danger as she has a concussion. She can't remember what happened or who she is exactly. Kouji flies back to Mt Boki Dik in the TFO but abandons his search for any evidence when the area is surrounded suddenly by a thick fog.
Miuke is brought to the ranch to recover. It is Christmas time. Danbei, Hikaru, Goro, Kouji and Daisuke do their best to make her feel at home. Miuke wanders off into the woods and makes her way back to the spot where her house was buried in the snow. She digs in the snow and finds the small Christmas tree that her family had setup on the night of the earthquake. She also finds the book in which she wrote down what she wants for Christmas: a visit from the Prince of the Stars.
The Vegans spot Miuke and Blaki orders Gani Gani to destroy to her. The saucer beast creates another earthquake but Duke Fleed saves her from it. Professor Umon reports that the thick fog that Kouji encountered earlier in the episode was not called for in the weather forecast. He concludes that the Vegans must be behind it all. Duke Fleed (in Grendizer) and Kouji (in the TFO) return to Mt. Boki Dik. They locate and destroy the base that is under construction and the saucer beast.
The episode ends with Miuke getting her Christmas wish. Kouji, dressed as Santa Claus, flies her up to visit with Duke Fleed, whom she thinks is the Prince of the Stars.
Thoughts
The story revolves around Miuke and her situation as once again Duke Fleed and the others play a supporting role. I don't think that's a bad thing. The war with the Vegans gets a bit old after a while.
The destruction of the Mt Boki Dik Observatory kind of ties into the previous episode. The Vegans destroyed most of the observatories around the world while the eclipse was happening in that episode.
I was stunned by the moment when Kouji tries to get Miuke to remember what happened to her by shaking her violently. Duke Fleed shows a similar lack of restraint when he slaps Miuke, after saving her from the avalanche. She was distressed and screaming for her parents. Slapping her was not the right thing to do. It isn't something that would be shown in anime today but it happens from time to time in old anime from this era.
On the whole this episode was better than I feared it would be. I'm left wondering what happened to Miuke after she met Duke Fleed at the end of the episode. The dialogue made it seem like he was the angel of death there to take her to heaven. Where did the ship come from that he's flying in when she visits him? So many questions.
