Daisuke is busy getting ready for New Year's celebrations on the farm when Giro Giro, the latest Vegan saucer beast, attacks. Giro Giro uses the power of the sun to charge up. It proves to be a little too much for Grendizer. Double Haken, one of Grendizer's weapon systems is knocked off line.
Grendizer escapes the fight before Giro Giro can deliver the killing blow. That night Kouji locates Giro Giro and tries to destroy it while it is immobile. Giro Giro proves to be a little more resistant than Kouji thought it would be.
The next day Grendizer goes out to fight the saucer beast once again, even though the Double Haken has not been fixed yet. Duke Fleed leaves the cockpit in the middle of the fight to try and fix the broken weapon system. Giro Giro gets in some good hits on Grendizer while Duke Fleed is trying to fix the weapon system. Kouji come to the rescue, for the second time this episode. He uses a mirror, that Professor Umon's staff attached to the bottom of the TFO, to reflect back the destructive solar ray beam that the saucer beast uses. This buys Duke Fleed enough time to finish the repairs and then finish off Giro Giro.
The episode ends with Kouji receiving a message that a familiar face will be coming to visit the ranch.
Thoughts
The battle with the saucer beast was very lopsided, first in the saucer beast's favor and then in Grendizer's favor. The real draw here is all the things that surrounded it.
It was neat to see the insides of Grendizer when Duke Fleed was repairing the Double Haken. I was not expecting that.
The opening scene at the ranch was also a little different. It dealt with a Japanese tradition of pounding rice cakes. I was able to find some videos online that looked similar to what they showed in the episode.
Things got wrapped up fairly quickly once the Double Haken was fixed but at this point that didn't surprise me.
